We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Hatch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I grew up in Mesa AZ. But after I was married I moved to California. I was a clothing designer for 12 years. I grew up in retail and have been designing spaces my whole life. I had 5 retail stores in San Diego. We also sold our cloting line nationwide and were featured in many specialty and well known department stores. I began to have a relationship with Nordstrom and other businesses. Soon store clients wanted my help in design. Then other businesses. I started doing display for Nordstrom and the malls. I have always loved interior design and loved building my stores, and homes and helping others. All of my business experience has helped me in making my business successful. You have to have a plan, from start to finish- I prepared mine and spent lots of time researching and new exactly each time I started a business what my end goal was. But I must say – I made plenty of mistakes, thats called the school of hard knocks and they are necessary for you to grow and become successful,
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am so proud of the Interior Designs we have done. We have a distinct style which you can see when you shop in our store. We have our interior design office in the back. So it’s like a showroom for our clients. We have worked hard to keep our style fresh and creative. We treat each client as an individual and ask so many questions so we can make sure the design represents them. We masterfully blend modern and classic elements to keep it clean, fresh and updated look. We make it meaningful to the client and also make it practical and useful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well it’s all about the scenery, shopping and the food. So a desert drives to see everything in bloom with all this recent rain, it’s magical. Food- I have about 5 favorites we would be sure to visit.
Shopping, not to brag but all my friends make me take them to my store. I honestly would not mind not going there – but it is a destination for lots of women. Those who visit Gilbert, tell us we are the highlight stop, they love to visit our store Designer Blvd. For gifts, something unique, or decor for the home. Christmas is everyone’s favorite we have about 6 trees decked out in themes with matching everything for your home. We have lots of options, baby area, clothing, jewelry, cooking and home decor.
If they are staying for a week, My special treat is a hydro facial from Emily Frost,
Top golf for fun and a little sports. Tempe town lakes if the weather is cooler, we ride bikes in the evening and it is so fun. There is so much to do here, it really is amazing.
I would also drive them to Payson to see the pine trees and for some fun hiking.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must say there are so many people I have watched and loved. So many people who I appreciate listening and giving me true advice. So many took the time, to look at my business plan and critique it. The top of my list are my parents, who both had retail stores, I went to market with them since I was 5 years old. They had me working and learning. I also appreciate so many who have talents that I do not, Bookkeeping, accounting, other business owners who I ask advice from talented employees who support you and cheer you on. Sales reps who believed in my designs. Clients who trust me to make their home beautiful and give me the opportunity to design. It is so important to appreciate those who help you and support you thru the process.
