We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Nicolas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance has been a whole new game since becoming a mom! Finding personal time can feel like a miracle—usually either at 2 a.m. or for a quick 20 minutes. It’s definitely all about the balance, though. I’ve learned to wake up earlier, speed through the small stuff, and break up big tasks so I don’t get overwhelmed. Asking for help isn’t easy for me, but I’m finally seeing that delegating is essential, whether it’s for work or home. And honestly, organized lists are now my secret weapon for making it all happen!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart as an artist is that creating and evoking emotions feels like it’s just in my DNA. Art is my way of channeling what’s inside and putting it out there for others to connect with.

As a self-taught artist, my work reflects years of commitment and pure passion. I’m beyond excited about my latest collection, inspired by my own childhood memories—one that’s especially for those who grew up in the 2000s and can relate to the same Black culture moments that shaped my childhood.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still getting to know the city, but a few favorite spots I’d definitely recommend are “Lacuna Kava Bar”, where they serve a unique, non-alcoholic drink made from mushroom root, and “Rehab Burger Therapy” in Scottsdale—the vibe there is amazing, and it was the first burger spot I tried when I moved to Arizona. Phoenix has some of the best art markets, and First Friday is a must for that creative energy. And if they are up for a quick road trip, Flagstaff and Sedona offer incredible views and are totally worth it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Big shoutout to Boujee Brush, artist and Chill by Chel, an event curator. Lacuna Kava Bar in Phoenix, where I host my paint-and-puff events! It’s incredible to work with these creative forces and have a place that fully embraces art, community, and unique vibes.
