We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Lang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
It’s time to buckle down.

That saying “buckle down” could be in any context, but it simply bothers me. I’ve been told that before in the context that after this big trip I was taking, I should be buckling down to focus on life, school, but really, the mundane things.

To me, that saying sounds like it’s time to get serious and stop living or at least put it on pause, but I will never adhere to that. We’re alive now, and if I didn’t take every opportunity to feel alive, then I don’t know why I’m here.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography/ art is simply a reflection of my interests. Before I knew how to handle a camera, I still loved to hike, and I wanted to get better at capturing what I was living. Then, hiking led me to buying a camera, and now that camera goes with me everywhere I go. It’s been on the summit of North America as well as hanging out in a canoe with me in Voyageurs National Park. There’s no limits to where I’ll take it, but I love capturing what I’m living. Overall, I love that my favorite shots are not what you’d call a typical “Instagram spot”. Rather, my favorite shots are just hanging out in a cool place and I happened to capture the beauty of a cool moment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I live on an island, and since so many places are well-known, I keep the real secrets to myself. I know some pretty cool places here, and I intend to keep those places secret. However, there is an amazing ramen restaurant called Menya le Nood in Honolulu. I take everyone visiting there, but as for the outdoors, I would probably show someone Kuliʻouʻou Ridge. It’s an all uphill hike, but the view from the summit over east Oʻahu is pretty incredible, especially at sunrise.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For me, I think it’s a childhood friend. Him and I are running vastly different kinds of businesses, but it’s fun to be making it all happen at the same time. We share in our successes and our struggles, and when the other person is doing good, there’s no sense of jealousy if you’re not doing as good. I think it’s fun to talk about our businesses to get a greater understanding of the small business culture, even though most of what we both do has no crossover.
