We had the good fortune of connecting with Oaklee Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oaklee, why did you pursue a creative career?
Making soap is not only scientific, challenging, and technical but also fun, creative, and expressive. To be able to express myself in the products I make and watch people relate to them is very special and gratifying. When I am following my intuition with my combinations and recipes, there is a noticeable elevation to the final product. Some of my best soaps that ended up being fan favorites to this day were soaps that were inspired and created on a whim! This is only possible when there is enough room left for creativity and artistry to flow.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My commitment to making products that I would use is what has driven my success. I am very particular about what I put on my skin, and so it was important for me to only use clean, natural ingredients in my soap. If I wouldn’t love it, it doesn’t go in the soap. This gives me confidence in what I am giving to customers, because I know I’m selling the highest quality product possible. This has driven my creativity to create beautiful soaps that are not only fun to look at, but are also GREAT for your skin. I use only natural botanicals, oils, clays, and essential oils to make, color and scent the soap.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beach! We would definitely visit Laguna Beach. We would start off with breakfast at Zinc Cafe, followed by a day on the beach, then sandwiches from Orange Inn, followed by a walk around downtown, then take the trolly South to eat dinner at La Sirena, do some more walking around and visit the beach down there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and mom deserve shoutouts! My husband is great at helping me name new soaps and comes with me to a lot of my events which is a big help! My mom has been super supportive since I started and always ordering for gifts and personal use.
