We had the good fortune of connecting with Emby Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emby, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Between thought and expression lies a lifetime.” – Lou Reed . I spend lots of time daydreaming and in contemplation. These daydreams are the germs that eventually become our songs. It can be difficult to capture what I hear in my head, especially trying to involve friends and collaborators. For all of the struggles I believe the pursuit is worth all of the difficulties.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are finishing our full-length album “SOARS ERA” and looking for an appropriate time to release it. This is the most thorough and lofty album we’ve ever made. We explore lots of territories. Punk, psychedelia, folk, and avant-garde. We have played hundreds of shows the USA, Mexico, and Canada. We really enjoy meeting new people and visiting new cities to share our art with. Any difficulties we have experienced seem diminished by all the positive people we’ve met. We will tour Europe and Japan this coming year. We are hoping to release the new record with Earth Libraries.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For outdoorsy fun I would take them to White Tanks, Tom’s Thumb, or Saguaro Lake. I usually stick to downtown for nightlife; I would make the rounds at Lost Leaf, Carly’s, Bliss/Rebar, or the new Theodore. The rooftop bar at Hotel Palomar has a nice view I usually show off to visitors. Coffee in the morning at Froth, Ollie Vaughn’s, La Bohemia, or Descent. I’d find time for Wonderspace at Scottsdale Mall, too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Otto D’Agnolo from “The Recording Artist”. He and his A&R Department took a chance on us and recorded our song “Pursuit” for the new series streaming on Amazon now. We really appreciate the platform and the work he’s doing to keep people engaged in art while we’re unable to see people in-person.
