We had the good fortune of connecting with Odalys B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Odalys, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
As I move forward in my business everyday, I learn more and more the importance of self care. To mention a little of what helps me succeed it would definitely have to start with what self care looks like for me. To start my day, it involves my presence within God. Being grateful for waking up alive and ready to live the life I am meant to have. To be within nature and have inner peace is part of the definition for me to be able to succeed. To everyone self care can mean something different. To me, this is only the beginning of self discovery within myself and the brands I am helping build move forward. I am excited to know God has my back no matter what. “Huh?!” you say, don’t believe me? Wakeup grateful everyday for another day of life and NOTICE how little bit of a difference that makes in YOUR life. Appreciation is a wonderful habit. Along with being everyday appreciative for everything in life, hiking and exploring within Arizona is always a favorite of mine. This is my definition of being one within nature. Whether it is to start or finish my week here, Living Inline is also one place who has always helped me get through tough times in my life. Everything that is emotional, chemical and physical stress they have truly helped me stay balanced in life. Dr. Jason (athlete expert), his wonderful partner and Bach flower specialist Dr. Elissa, along with mommy guru and nutritionist Dr. Stephanie are my weekly dose of relief. Lastly, Jaclyn, the masseuse expert I do not miss a month without seeing. Now you may think, dang that is a lot of driving! But, in reality, I make time around my everyday appointments and work life to be sure I make time to get myself checked and cared for. Self care is important, because YOU are worth it and YOU are important. It all starts here for me, these are the habits that have helped me in my journey and have helped me succeed to this day. I hope this little bit of my journey helps your self discovery to self care too, cheers! O.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
America is a land of the free. Free to express and show art in a way only the author sees fit. Being first generation in my family to be born in beautiful Arizona. all the way from Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico meant a wonderful new beginning in my world. For this, my goal in life is to help other creatives and young people within our community express themselves in ways one never thought possible. Bringing an idea to life is more than just shopping within a budget and using the equipment you only have. To bring an idea to life, it is expressing yourself in the only way you know how, to create. For me, this has been my journey within Photography. But it all truly started with our business in BARMAGIC. A mobile bar business here in the valley that was born from experience in customer service and bartending a few weeks into my relationship with my partner Felipe. BARMAGIC was born December of 2014. Since then, we have worked multiple events where I still felt like my creative side was not being fully fulfilled along with my service. In October of 2020, I decided to take a giant leap and begin my journey as a photographer for Oshoot.Az. Within one year alone I have had more than 15 bookings. Now I am saying that with pride because I have accomplished much more than I could have ever imagined in my first year of business alone. I am ALWAYS looking to connect with other creatives and individuals who love to learn and pick up a new skill. It is never too late to learn something new, you just have to go out there and do it! Or in my case, create something you have never seen before. This is where I want to be. Saved in your contacts as a creative director and friend you know you can count on! Cheers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best friend is in town visiting, and we are taking a trip to Sedona in the week! Why? Because we are saving Vegas for the weekend. Again, why?! Because it is so close! From one of my favorite resorts Los Abrigados, at the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village to the beautiful red rock trails and stunning views, this is the definition of a quiet staycation for me. Wine tasting, local desserts and searching for my favorite beer Sonoron White Chocolate Ale is but a few of my favorite things to do when visiting Sedona. Once all the city and touristy spots have been hit with our rollerblading presence, we pack a lunch and drinks to make way to see the sunset views within nature through a hike. And if Vegas is not in the weekend picture, you will find me traveling back down Southern Arizona to visit Tucson, Tombstone, Bisbee and Douglas. Where there is access to cross the border and explore more of Mexico roots.
My partner Felipe was born and raised on this side of Arizona so we find ourselves traveling down here at least 2-3 times a month. I highly recommend if you make the drive, plan in advance with a local who has been here before. These cities carry so much Arizona history it is a brief reminder to show you how far our beautiful Az state has grown and evolved to what it is growing today. It may not be the most exciting places to visit, but if you are looking for a culture reality check, crossing the border to Agua Prieta and back within the day will give you a taste of the life so easily misunderstood on the other side of the border. I hope everyone when given the moment is able to explore Southern Arizona like this at some point in their lives, for me this is definitely a trip I would take my best friend on. We would eat the best Sonoron hot dogs in town. Buy the best alcohol at a tax-free price through the Veuta when crossing the border and finish at one of our favorite taco places, El Mago. With so much shopping available at a portion of the price, its no wonder the Mexican people find their way at the only Walmart in Douglas. Lol
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business partner, Felipe Linares. He is owner of BARMAGIC & has truly encouraged me to build my own brand and business aside from our mobile bar business we run together.
