We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Opocensky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, what do you attribute your success to?
I feel that creating events or experiences that are original and personal to those who have attended my shows is key to my brand. A genuine connection to those who chose to share those moments with me has been a blessing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a singer/songwriter who loves the release that music gives me. It has not been an easy path. I started as a self taught musician and have practiced so much to get to the level I am at today. There is still so much room to grow. I also make my own posters and art and take great pride in coming up with something that catches the eye but holds true to my vintage style. From my days in the band Tongue Dried Sun to what I do solo now I have gone through many hardships. I am currently in the middle of a battle with Colorectal Cancer…a battle I will not lose! I also lost my mother to breast cancer a few years ago which lead me to get back out playing again.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, he is coming to town soon and we plan on going to see Pearl Jam on May 9th in Phoenix. My ideal time with him would be a great concert and food at some of my favorite Tucson restaurants such as Seis Kitchen, Truland Bugers, El Rustico and Sonoran Brunch Company. Then some beverages from my favorite bottle shops Caps & Corks, the Tucson Hop Shop, and Tap & Bottle or some local breweries- Pueblo Vida, Moto Sonora, Firetruck, Button Brew House and Borderlands! But mostly just spending time together catching up on life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God above all has blessed me with music and my beautiful wife, Jenna Opocensky, my 4 lovely daughters, my family and friends have been nothing short of amazing in helping me grow the Paul Opocensky Project to what it is today.
