Meet Rachel Mari Kimber | Chocolatier, Healer & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Mari Kimber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel Mari, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business, in all honesty, was the perceived freedom and permission it gave me to pursue one of my favourite passions- chocolate creating and inventing. Most fulfilling of all is taste testing all of the experiments along the way! I also enjoy that I get to offer delicious, nutritious chocolates and truffles to locals who seek a healthier lifestyle without compromising on taste.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am so grateful for the gifts I have to share. It has taken me a long time to truly accept and integrate all of them, as they are many and diverse. I speak of them collectively as ‘Healing Arts’, all of them being different expressions of healing. Each of my gifts have taken me on my own healing journey to overcome aspects of self worth and self sabotage. As a musician and healer, when I make chocolate, I sing to it, and infuse positive messages through word and thought vibrations. I tone sing while tempering (stirring) the chocolate or truffle mixture, and whisper loving affirmations. It is my highest joy to infuse love into something that will be eaten, especially believing we are what we eat! I feel the most important lesson for any business created, is to love the process regardless of the outcome.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are many good spots to take a guest in the city, and the lightrail metro system is a great way to get around. I appreciate that Phoenix has invested a lot in arts and culture. There are weekly arts and crafts markets, as well as food and music events in the local parks now and again, so there is usually something accessible a short ride and walk away, which frees you up to not be concerned about traffic and parking, although for a city there appears to be a decent amount of parking available too, with the multi story lots. The children’s museum is a great family outing if you have kids, as is the Phoenix Zoo, and a must visit for newcomers is the Botanical Gardens, which gives an enlightening education about all of the amazing flora and fauna found in this unique desert land. One of my personal favourites, is bicycling to Tempe Town lake, to stretch and picnic on one of the many grass verges, while watching the water fowl and enjoying the sun set. So picturesque. With so many restaurants and cafes to choose from, it’s a challenge to pin down a few.. for a fresh juice or smoothie, The Original Chop Shop on E University Dr in Tempe is good. For breakfast, Snooze aka Postino on College Ave, Tempe has everything you could wish for. House of Tricks in Tempe has a nice outdoor setting for something fancy, as does St Francis restaurant on Camelback, Biltmore for a magical evening meal with fresh clean tasty food. There are also many good Sushi places around, Kuka Sushi on Apache Blvd in Tempe is nice, and walkable from where I live. This wouldn’t be complete without mentioning my daughters’ favourite craze – boba drinks at Bubbleology with its aesthetically colourful and groovie interior design. To be found on S Terrace Rd in Tempe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was initially trained in all things chocolate by Carolyn Lyon, working for Kelly Johnson of Sedona Chocolate Superfoods at The Chocolatree in Sedona, AZ. There I was inspired to pursue chocolate alchemy by the pioneering chocolatiers I worked with at the time, including Lulu Bonner (Lulu’s Chocolates), Jeff Botticelli (Fortuna), and Sarah Ann Lesslie (Chocolita) who all produce very high end nutritious delicious and unique styles of chocolates. I am grateful to friends Lisa Rosenbloom and Heidi Partlowe for the suggestions they have given me in feedback, leading me to invent a cacao free truffle -Maca Nut Crunch Meltie, containing maca root powder known for its hormone balancing properties, Thanks to fellow musician Adam Smith, I invented a truffle with superfoods and maple syrup instead of honey, as a vegan option, The endless possibilities are enticing!
