Meet Randy Kauk | Medical Director Elle Aesthetics

We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Kauk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randy, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Starting out in medical aesthetics has been so much more than I thought it was going to be. Plenty of nurses and other medical providers take training courses for Botox and Dermal fillers and feel like they’re ready to open a med spa. One of the things that people outside of the industry are not aware of is the number of business activities that have to be undertaken.
Some decisions that need to be made include how the business will be structured and what the insurance needs are.
I had to obtain an LLC, liability insurance and malpractice insurance in addition to finding my rental space.
I also had to figure out how to open accounts with companies such as Allergen, Galderma, and McKesson.
A website and marketing plan is needed but is not taught in any aesthetics training courses usually.
Making sure your social media names are available and creating your brand are also things that are important to your business. I was lucky enough to find a great company, Luxe Design Co, to assist me with all things related to web sites, branding and marketing.
Injectors who are planning on opening their own space need to take time to build a solid business and marketing plan.
Learning how to inject is the fun part of medical aesthetics, creating a business any marketing plan is much harder work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a medical professional for 11 years, working in neurology, neurosurgery, pain & addiction management, and orthopedic surgery. While I was with Mayo Clinic Hospital, I obtained my MSN degree to become a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner.
I found it hard to schedule aesthetic treatments as a busy professional because medical spas were not open in the evening or on the weekends.
Busy working professionals enjoy medical aesthetic treatments but the lack of non-9-5 hours at most med spa makes it difficult to find appointments.
I have always been interested in the wellness side of medicine, and my passion was for aesthetics, so I decided to open my own medical aesthetics practice offering evening and weekend hours.
This was the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey and the creation of Elle Aesthetics.
Elle Aesthetics is a boutique style med spa specializing in personalized consultations and client centered treatment plans.
We also offer a variety of wellness programs including IV infusions, vitamin shots, medical weight loss plans, treatment of mild pain and nausea.
Skin care also plays an important part of aesthetics. Skin care treatments, facials, peels, and retail products are recommended to maintain healthy, beautiful appearance. Just for fun, spray tanning is also available.
Opening my medical spa is a dream that a goal that fueled my desire to be and become an entrepreneur.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are coming up on the best time to be in Scottsdale, Az. So many great outdoor restaurants, I love Isabella’s at Grayhawk golf course. The Vig is a great neighborhood place and has live music. Hiking at Pinnacle Peak is fun because you get to see the fabulous houses built on the mountain. I love Spring Training baseball. I tried to visit every stadium one year but only made it to 10. Waste Management Phoenix Open and Barret Jackson are both do not miss events. If I was to stay at a hotel, it would have to be the Fairmont Princess. The holiday events are the best around, Pumpkin Nights & Christmas at the Princess.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to Jennifer Prince owner of the Institute of Aesthetics. She has been instrumental in my journey to have my own med spa. She has provided encouragement, training, and mentoring along my journey.
I also want to give a shoutout to Ashley Shropshire of Luxe Design Co for teaching me all I needed to know about marketing and branding. I would be lost without her direction.
