We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron Laikind and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ron, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting this business was a simple solution at first, create a way to keep cool while hiking my favorite trails. I live in Arizona, the hottest of locations in the United States, and I’m an avid outdoorsman who explored the world’s deserts – including a 1000-mile trek through the Sahara. I was always grappling with the heat, and I didn’t want it to stop me from the activities I love. So, after looking at an array of possible cooling solutions that would last hours, I settled on misting. Most mist systems that were available just weren’t powerful enough, not compact or lightweight enough to comfortably get me through some of my most challenging outdoor activities. I looked around for anything on the current market that could work, but high-pressure misting systems were only for home or commercial use. Personal systems were low-end, hand-held, mini-fan style misters. That just wasn’t good enough!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been a bit of a serial entrepreneur throughout my life. My current business adventure is one of my more challenging projects. To invent something that is a new category has tested all my skills and made me take on a lot of new ones. I could not have done it without the assistance of many people and firms. Of course not to mention my investor/business partner.
My biggest lesson is that procrastination can be a business killer! Of course, you can’t carelessly just jump into something. However, sometimes you have to gamble and take a calculated risk and just pull the proverbial trigger!
My brand and story are simple; Get out there and enjoy the great outdoors! Cool down and go stronger and further!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Arizona is my favorite place on the planet! I would start at my home which is several miles off the pavement in the Rio Verde desert. We would start with a Razor ride in the Tonto National Forest then we would go up to the McDowell mountains for a nice long hike. Then load up the Jeep and head to any one of the states’ awesome preserves or parks for a few days of hiking and camping. Who could ask for more?!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where do I start? I am a product of my environment! Family, friends, business associates, and acquaintances have all molded me. So there’s a lot of recognition to go around!
