We had the good fortune of connecting with Roshi Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roshi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my business because I figured I had nothing to lose. Art has always been a passion of mine. I enjoyed it without making money from it. People responded so well to the pieces I created, so it felt right to start sharing my art more publicly. I have always wanted a job that doesn’t feel like work. RSP Designs has become that perfect outlet for me because I enjoy everything I do for it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the hardest parts of starting your own business is the fear of failure. Oftentimes, it is easy to develop imposter syndrome where you don’t feel like your craft is good enough. However, the more you perfect your skill, you begin to realize that your art has value. I have spent years working on calligraphy and I continue to practice everyday. It is a refined skill that sets my brand apart from others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Phoenix, I always recommend Old Town Scottsdale. It is such a fun place to go on the weekend and there is no shortage of good food and drinks. In the mornings, I recommend taking a hike on Camelback Mountain or taking a day trip to see the beauty of Sedona. TopGolf is a fun outing with friends where you can enjoy a delicious meal while golfing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe much of my success to my parents who have supported my business from day one. I also would like to recognize my friends that pushed me to start this business and have cheered me on from the sidelines. Finally, I would like to recognize the amazing small business Instagram community in Arizona that I have been lucky enough to network with.
