We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Fila and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks and betting on yourself as an entrepreneur or creative is among the top 3 most necessary pieces of action you’ll take throughout the journey. If you don’t have a high risk tolerance, and self confidence to believe that you’ll dig yourself out of the holes you WILL ultimately dig for yourself, the solo/entrepreneur route isn’t for you. I will put a small caveat in this though, there are different levels of risk with different types/areas of entrepreneurship. But, regardless, you have to believe in yourself more than the average person.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Wow, this could be a literal book answer. I will keep the answers short and to the point, and we can expand in conversation.

What sets me apart?
I try to be as real as possible. This sounds cliche, but in the Youtube space it’s important. Plus, as a “travel” creative much of the content is very curated and unattainable for most viewers, but the stories I typically tell are more humanistic in nature.

How did I get here? Was it easy?
I started by forming a non-profit, sleeping in my car traveling around the US speaking to youth about responding to adversity, and filming those speeches to put online. Then COVID happened and public speaking wasn’t a thing so I moved the camera a bit closer to my face and spoke in stories. I’ve had to overcome financial, social, personal, and creative challenges every week! It’s an on-going battle that probably won’t be done for a while. We’re playing the long game here 😉

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Be self aware. That’s what I want people to know. Try things, and try things, and try things. See how they feel. See how you feel. A life stuck doing something 40+ hours a week that you hate isn’t a life you HAVE to live. If anything, that’s a life we settle for. But, don’t get caught in the hustler circle. If working for someone makes you happy, DO THAT. Don’t force yourself to be an entrepreneur if it’s not burning inside of you. There’s no shame in that. Do what makes you happy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The itinerary would depend on where they’re from & what they’re used to seeing. As a traveler myself, what I appreciate experiencing are things, places, food, and people that I’m not used to.

If people were coming to Denver (where I’m originally from) we’d do a few things in specific:

Have my grandpa play his OLD country bluegrass music
Go to a castle built by one CRAZY old man in the mountains
Stroll around Denver’s downtown area and hit a few hole in the wall places to eat
Go snowboarding/hiking/tubing (something in the mountains)
Drive to one of the tallest mountains in the country (hike if they’re able)
Depending on time I’d love to take them out to the biggest sand dunes in the country!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Right now I want to dedicate it to some rock solid human beings in my life. The Anderson Family has truly brought me in as one of the kids and I have been welcomed as one of the kids, plus my auntie and uncle give me wisdom, insight, direction, and feedback in a non-biased, real, tangible way that I’m infinitely grateful for. Having a few people in your life who are absolutely, without a doubt, in your corner to build you as a human is game changing.

Not to hype you up. To BUILD you.
