We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Osmun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve pursued a photography career, going on 10 years now, mostly because of my love for the outdoors and capturing the moments you can have out there that you may never get again. That one sunset that just blows your mind because even though it happens everyday..there’s just some on another level of amazement! I love to capture families and portraits of beautiful people, only to see their faces light up so much when they get to see the final images.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes in the form of photography. I found my desire for it merely by accident. I started hiking about 11 years ago and I realised how great it would be to show these places on earth to my friends and family. The cell just wasn’t cutting it, it robbed a lot of the beauty! So..bought my first real camera. It was a canon, t5. I learned everything about it by taking it with me everywhere I went, photographing everything I could. Eventually I would have so many people saying that I need to put these photos out for people to purchase! So I designed my site www.ryanosmunphoto.com . Providing a gallery of my work over 10 years time, each for sale. I decided about 3 years ago that I would extend my knowledge and dive deeper into the world of portrait and family photography. Very awkwardly I started to offer $50 shoots. With the disclaimer that I’m just starting out. Right off the bat I loved it, felt natural, fun, exciting, everything that had me into photography in the first place. Clients were loving my work, after about 5 clients..I decided I was worth a bit more and upped my price to $100, exact same result but the poses were improving a ton. Everyone loved the photos and the look on their faces made me want to try even harder next shoot! I began to felt like this is what I belong doing! So here I am today doing any and all photography that clients ask for. Still taking the time for myself to shoot those amazing landscapes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came in for a week, my first thought would be to try some exciting bars! My favorite place is called the ostrich in dt Chandler, amazing little speak easy with awesome drinks that you can’t find anywhere else! Hanging out during the day, I’d have to say a trip to the river to float down and have fun with a bunch of other people. If it’s any time other than summer there are some amazing hikes in the superstitions that would be a must. Maybe even take a little trip up to sedona for the day to explore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give credit to my mom, it could have been very easy at many points in her life to say she can’t go further and give up trying. She never did not once, and so she has easily passed on the mentality of never giving up. 2nd person would have to be my son. Never believed I would be able to raise a child in this world, but seeing him grow and become a little man makes me grateful to be a part of his life.
