We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Yee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In 2010, I became a Police Officer in a progressive and very busy agency in the Los Angeles County region. This is when the term, “risk” became a part of my daily life.

In 2015, the stakes became even higher when I joined our SWAT Team, and Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Our primary duties were to apprehend violent and dangerous individuals who were actively on the run for violent crimes and often armed with weapons.

Whether suiting up in SWAT gear about to serve a search warrant or just driving home from the grocery store, the inherited risks in my daily duties/life have taught me that you are never guaranteed another day in this world. However, I do believe where there is risk, there is reward. I often weigh out the risk vs reward. Often times the risk outweighs the reward, and a person with a strong sound mindset must understand the potential outcome, thus make a sound decision whether or not to take on that risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Very difficult. Don’t get complacent, growth does not happen in comfort. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. Everyday is a learning experience. The day you think you know it all is the day you fail you and others you serve. Train hard, train smart and learn from others. Take what works for you/your team, and leave the rest. Work hard, stay humble, always be a student.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mentors, friends- Not mentioning any names because it’s very few and they know who they are My Police Department
