We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Sloan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
One of the big motivators I’ve had from the start is to change the standard of this industry. Real estate agents often are viewed negatively and with good reason. I have seen a lot of agents who have settled for being below average and do not provide clients with the service and education those clients truly deserve. I want to set a new level of expectations, professionalism, education, and trust for every client interaction I have. My goal is to create the best possible experience for my clients that exceed expectations and set a new standard for authentic and truly exceptional real estate agents.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Building your business as a real estate agent is very challenging as you are the sole person responsible for everything in your business and whether you fail or succeed depends on you. Starting over and building your business from the ground up is always challenging, especially when you do it in the middle of a global pandemic like I did.
Real estate is always portrayed as this glamorous career that is easy and makes you tons of money. But rarely do you see all the struggle and failure behind the scenes. The first year was a struggle (mentally and financially) and there were a few times I considered giving up. I made lots of mistakes and poor decisions. But I also learned lots of lessons that helped me build my business even stronger than before!
The thing that sets my business apart is that I design it in a way to ensure that my clients feel informed and have fun throughout the whole process! Buying or selling a home is exciting but also a big step and I ensure that my clients always know what is going on, what the next steps are, and get to enjoy it. I am there to help and guide, but ultimately the decisions are theirs and I never make them feel any pressure. I want my clients to enjoy the process as much as possible, not feel stressed, and laugh!
Being a native here in Arizona has given me an opportunity to provide the best possible home search experience for the awesome people I get to work with. A lot of the time, I work with people who are new to the city or are relocating here from out of state. All they need to know is what kind of lifestyle and feel they want in their home and neighborhood and I can show them exactly the perfect fit here!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I seriously LOVE this city and everything it has to offer! When I have friends who visit I am always so excited to show them what Phoenix has to offer! Let’s start off in downtown Phoenix which is the center of arts and culture in this city. We’ll check out some of the best restaurants: Songbird Coffee, Matt’s Big Breakfast, El Norteño, Cornish Pasty, Chico Malo, Welcome Diner, Mrs. White’s. And of course we’ll go to First Fridays in downtown, one of the nation’s largest self-guided art walks for the community to tour. Over 70 galleries and venues that cover a range of art from music, painting, sculptures, fashion, and more. But not only that, several vendors provide excellent local food and beverages to enjoy while you explore the different exhibits! Then of course we would check out the theatres and venues downtown to catch an opera, broadway show, standup comedy, and live musical performances.
Then we’ll head over to Scottsdale for some of the best brunches, views, and nightlife! For brunch we have to go to Prep & Pastry, Arcadia Farms, Maple & Ash, and Butters! Then we’ll walk around the Waterfront in Old Town Scottsdale to enjoy the small local shops and beautiful scenery! As soon as it’s nighttime we have to check out the nightlife which Old Town Scottsdale is known for! Bring your ID and dancing shoes because we are going to be out all night!
One of my favorite things about Phoenix is how diverse it is, there are so many incredible backgrounds and cultures all together here! Because of that you can find the most incredible food! And when you’re ready to enjoy that sunshine and weather we’ll get active and head out to the water parks, endless hiking, and sporting events that you can find all over thew valley!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout and thanks to my mentor Audrey Myers who has been there for me since the start. She so freely and openly has given me guidance, advice, and helped me learn from her mistakes. She is so genuine, authentic, and incredible at what she does and has modeled the type of business owner and woman I strive to become. I would not be where I am without her and cannot thank her enough!
