We had the good fortune of connecting with Sammi Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sammi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a business is a commitment and requires dedication, resources and sacrifice. Except, I really didn’t put much thought into it when I first started my business. I just sort of- did it. No hesitation. It was my day off, and i started scrolling through some logos that I had liked, chose a name, and started making my social media pages! I had this idea in my head for about a year, but decided to finally bring this idea to life! I was working a full time retail job while going to school part time, and decided the extra income would be extremely helpful. I created some items and posted these items to a variety of social media platforms and within a week of starting my business, I thankfully (and quickly) began building a clientele. My business has only grown from then. Although I didn’t have a clear vision of what was to come for my business when I first started, I’m very proud to say that as a young entrepreneur (doing everything alone besides the help of my significant other), I wouldn’t regret an absolute thing. Starting a business is a learning experience, and it will have its ups and its downs, but overcoming and learning from these experiences is what will help your business grow and succeed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe all my baked goods are an art. Every single time I’ve gone to a pop-up event, I’ve received countless compliments on how unique my desserts are. I pride myself in my work, so I always do my best to beautifully represent my work. I’m beyond proud of myself to be able to create beautiful edible art that my clients are able to enjoy. I love being able to make desserts but bring my own twist to it, such as decorating, packaging, or mixing new flavors. I love creating new things and bringing them to life and seeing people enjoy these creations. I will admit that not every creation has been successful, but it’s all apart of the learning experience! In order to figure out what items will sell, you have to get to know your audience. I frequently do polls on my social media platforms asking my clients what new desserts they would like to see me make, what flavors they want to see more of, etc. Interacting with your audience is such an important factor when owning a business because you have to know what your audience is interested in. I want to be able to continue making new desserts that will not only catch my clients eye, but also satisfy their sweet tooth. At the end of the day, having the clients expectations met is what matters the most. I want the world to know that The Sweet Spot Az will always be home to such unique and flavorful desserts, and we will always do everything we can to make sure our clients are always satisfied and happy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely bring my friends to Molinas Creperie in Buckeye, Arizona! It’s a small family owned business that has such a clean and friendly environment that everybody loves! It’s such a nice hang out spot for a friend group of any age, and their food is absolutely delicious! After being at Molinas, I would probably take them to Brass Armadillo in Goodyear! Brass Armadillo is a thrift shop home to a variety of different vendors, and you can find just about anything here! It’s so nostalgic every time I come inside, because I always find some sort of cool item that reminds me of my childhood. You can find anything from an old happy meal toy to a vintage old school poster. After browsing through Brass Armadillo, I would probably take them mini golfing at Puttshack in Scottsdale! Puttshack is an indoor mini golf experience with a twist! It’s tech-infused mini golf, which means they’ve thrown out the paper and pencils and replaced them with a super fun new scoring system. The balls track your gameplay and you can earn (or lose) points based on how you play. These are just a few places I would take my friends or family if they were to come visit my town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My boyfriend Angel 100% deserves recognition towards the success of my business. He has been extremely supportive since I’ve began this journey, and I know he will do everything he absolutely can to help me continue growing. He has made a variety of sacrifices such as early morning set up for pop-up events, he delivers any local orders I may have, stays up late at night with me while I’m baking, always helps me make profesional business decisions and sooo much more! His support has fueled me to make the very best I can out of my business, because i know he truly believes that I can succeed. His confidence gives me the confidence that I need in order to do that. Having someone as understanding as he is important, because when I become overwhelmed, I know I can turn to him to help me make the most productive decision possible. I’m very grateful to God for blessing me with such a strong, smart, dedicated, and supportive man to help me navigate through my business and personal life. My business wouldn’t be as successful as it is without the help of my partner, and for that, I will always be grateful for him!
