We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean McGraw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew from an early age that I wanted to start a business and answer to me and only me. My father is an entrepreneur which gave me the good fortune of being able to watch him grow a business throughout my childhood. There is something extremely attractive about being 100% responsible for your ultimate successes or failures. The sky is the limit and there’s no cap to the possibilities!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
FOR Energy is a full service residential energy company. We evaluate the home and the homeowners goals- whether it be comfort issues, high bills, or the want to be more sustainable, we can help with it all! We do energy audits, HVAC, replacement windows, solar, and other solutions.
Business growth has been anything but easy. It took me a lot of resilience, persistence, and grit. I chose a long time ago to learn from my failures and to try to make certain mistakes only once.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take a friend to the Waste Management Open, Spring Training, or another major event in town. I think Phoenix is one of the best unique special event cities in the country! And one of the best places for great food! Sedona, Cave Creek, Prescott, and Flagstaff are typically on the itinerary.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father is a big inspiration to me as well as a mentor. Books include Rich Dad Poor Dad, The 7 Habits, How to Win Friends and Influence People, E-Myth, Start with Why, Good to Great. My general network is a large inspiration. I like to surround myself with people that inspire me. People I can learn from.
