We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Dicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I enjoy brainstorming design concepts and seeing the finalized outcome displayed in real life environments.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a graphic designer with a strong background in wide format print design. I think one the biggest hurdles in my journey was transitioning graphics from on screen into real life. I think design requires alot of trial and error, and that allows you to explore your creativity throughout the process. I would say my best advice for anyone trying to become a graphic designer is to continuesly seek improvement of technique, stay consistent, sharpen your tools and always allow yourself to continue learning.

Along the way I have met alot of great influencers. Once an employer told me a term and it stuck with me. The term was reffered to as Kaizen. Kaizen is a compound of two Japanese words that together translate as “good change” or “improvement.” However, Kaizen has come to mean “continuous improvement” through its association with lean methodology and principles. I try to stand by these principles and improve my process each and every time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re not from Atlanta… a few spots ill make sure I take you to:

Food:
WaffleHouse
Tijuana Joes
Cinco Mexican Cantina

Nightlife:
Rock Steady ATL (For The Nightlife) — Ask for Salmon
**Make sure we’re going to the Rock Steady Block Parties
Atlanta Braves / Hawks Game / Falcons
The Battery

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother deserves alot of credit. She was a graphic designer and photographer that I followed in the footsteps of growing up. Now she has moved on from her graphic design career but, still offers me great advice.
