We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Love Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s the only thing that makes me happy. Instead of going against every cell in my body I thought t would be best for me to move with the flow. Growing up I heard how unfruitful creative careers were. Now that I’m older I reflected on those moments and figured the people telling me that had deeper issues. When God or the universe (whoever/whatever you believe in) gives YOU a vision it’s meant for you. Sometimes we go to others expecting them to be hype or understanding about YOUR vision and get let down. The vision was given to you for a reason. No one will be able to see it like you. My visions of what my reality and life looked like was always creative. From dance to social media to modeling to photography to coaching it always evolved around creativity. I had to follow my heart!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off with odd jobs before I set in social media. Working for Spotify really changed my outlook on how I’d like to spend my career path. I didn’t want to be another person in a office behind a computer 60-80 hours a week. I needed more. I had more to say & the world needed to hear it.
So I decided to step out on faith and my talents. I found a job with The City of Tempe working for Edna Arts. I was able to not only continue social media but also instruct students as a dance instructor. If you know me, dance is my foundation. While all of this was happening I was still going hard in my hobbies- modeling , coaching, content creation, and event coordinating.
My hobbies started to outweigh my social media career path. I found I liked being hands on and within my community rather then inside. My hobbies lead me to do great things like being a model director for multiple fashion weeks in the Arizona area. I’ve coached over 400 models in Arizona. I created a whole program for an upcoming model development program called Corella & Co. I’ve been able to public speak, announce awards & host multiple events for different organizations and entities around the valley like Luxe & City, Arizona Trending, FABRIC, Tempe Fashion Week and more. I’ve been able to create high quality content for brands worldwide like – Love Glasses Revolution, Copper Courier, Tkees, Universal Standard, Queen V, Tomboy X and more. I’ve also had the pleasure of modeling and walking the runway for clients like LAFW, PHXFW, Chicago Fashion Week, Solstice Intimates, Camille Nicole and so many more.
My hobbies made me realize I wanted my own community of people whom I could inspire and motivate. So I started a platform called Universal Love where we give creatives & artists the resources, empowerment, support, and tools to grow in a wild industry!
None of this was easy. I struggled for a while with the opinions of others vs my own. Figuring out how I could make all of this work. But you’ll never be happy listening to others! Once I realized this I blossomed. I’ve learned plenty of lessons about business vs pleasure , friends in business, how your talent can threaten others, how to never put on rose colored glasses, how to not tie yourself to a entity but a PURPOSE, to take everything as it is, for what it is. To never give up because tomorrow could be the day that everything clicks for you.
I want the world to know that I’ll always be here sharing mine and others stories, providing resources, and being a light in a dark world. I want the world to know that in the end, love will win. Love for yourself, others, and the entire world. It just starts with people like you and I.
