We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheila Steger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheila, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by nature and being outdoors. I have been in Arizona for almost 6 months and the wilderness nature is something I have never experienced, most of my life I grew up on the east coast, and it has sparked me with new creative ideas. I am in process of currently starting my YouTube channel back up where I’ll take people along the adventures I take in nature.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am vet tech assistant and have been in emergency medicine for a little over 2 years now. I use to be a dental assistant in human medicine (general, pediatrics, & orthodontics dentistry) but changed career paths. I always have had a passion in helping save animals lives and helping people where I can. What I enjoy about the many years in the medical field is educating clients about their child or pet. My love for animals sparked at a very young age and really got the flame going when I completed the “Vet Assisting” program at my high school. When I graduated from high school, I entered college having no clue what I truly wanted to be or become. The biggest challenge for me was feeling pressured to go to college and feeling overwhelmed. When you are 18 years old, you’re still trying to figure yourself out as a human being. I started off with being in the graphic arts program then randomly had a spark of trying dental field. I was a kid that went through braces and I love going to the dentists to get my teeth cleaned/check up. I graduated from dental school and started in the filed. I did dental for 6 yrs & worked for 2 different practices. It was hard at first to apply what I learned in school into the clinical part and dealing with real patients but had a great teams that helped me become the skilled assistant I am today. I’ve learned to be less a people pleaser and focus on my happy and my career path I want out of life; not letting pressure do a path I don’t want to go towards. I want people to know that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and self love. I’ve been working since I was 17 and now I’m 34. One major lesson that stands out to me now in my life, is don’t need college education to be successful. I felt pressured by peers and family when I wasn’t even sure what direction I wanted to sail my boat towards. I am happy the route I decided to take. I didn’t have to go back to college to be transition into the vet field; I got taught by certified technicians and learned a lot from the doctors I walked along side by.

Now currently in my life, I am on the side focusing my creativity towards my online platform. I am in the process of creating a new introduction and banner for my YouTube Channel, along with the help of my husband. I am going to start filming hiking trips, cooking, skateboarding, & makeup; some of my favorite hobbies to do in my personal time. My whole branding is about health, happiness, nature, showing people how to cook healthy meals. I believe in order to achieve your other goals, got to take good care of your body and mind. I enjoy sharing the things I enjoy and educating/showing others how to live a healthy lifestyle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’ve only been in Arizona for 5 months currently and still checking the state out. I did have two friends who have recently visited me and my husband. We took our friends to our favorite place in the world, Sedona. Sedona has the most beautiful views and red rock formations/mountains I have ever seen. Sedona is the most visited town we have done hikes and adventures at. We also have found some delicious local restaurants to dine at. From posting so much of my nature adventures, I had another friend book a vacation there with her partner. She said she loves that I am sharing all the nature I have seen.

What I love thus far of Arizona and what I would suggest:

-Cottonwood

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to say that I am thankful for having parents who always allowed me to be myself and supports me no matter what decisions I decide in my life journey. My parents always gave me the love and encouragement to try new activities that I didn’t know I would fall in liking with. My husband is my biggest supporter and has helped me with my online creativity with filming/editing. He tells me to keep going and encourages me to not give up. I also have to shoutout my bestfriends who have known me since we were preteens to adults now; they are my biggest supporters and uplifting woman, My besties always have my back and there to be a shoulder to cry on when things in life have gotten hard. They were the ones to tell me to continue with my online content and said I got to relaunch and bring my channel back. I feel very blessed & thankful to have my parents, husband, and them on the sidelines cheering me on.
