We had the good fortune of connecting with Skyla Sweeney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skyla, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think that going into being a business owner, risk is such a huge factor of it. Taking risks is literally everything that I did for my business. I am a teen mom and I had just graduated high school with the choice of going to a University or becoming a realtor. I risked everything that I had and jumped into real estate and I couldn’t have been more happy with my decision. But the real message I want to get across is that risk is a big factor and there needs to be risks in this kind of business. It might be scary but the end result is always worth it if you work hard enough for it, and that’s what I had to do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So, I’m a Southern Arizona REALTOR ® with Realty Executives Arizona Territory and I’m on a team called the Diamond Elite team. I just have to say first and foremost that I love where I’m at. I love my brokerage, I love my team and I really wouldn’t change anything about it! I feel like what sets me apart from others is my determination and mindset of I need to do right by others. What I’ve learned so far in this business is that there’s transactional people and relational people during a transaction and I feel like my main goal as well as my teams’ is to be relational people. My main goal is to help a person buy their forever home and help them find something that they love and want. It’s not about the transaction for me, it’s about building that long-lasting relationship with my clients. I look at it like this; I don’t want to take your money I want to find you a house that you can fall in love with. Moving on to business wise, it was not easy to get here. I had to face a lot in of obstacles and my biggest one was taking the risk and going all in into real estate. Being a teen mom and trying to balance being a business owner and a mom was one of the toughest ones I had to endure. My main goal was to make a better life for my son and be my own boss so that I could spend more time with him. I was successful in doing so and making it here, but it was definitely challenging trying to do all of that so young. Entrepreneurship is amazing but of course, it’s not going to be easy and it’s not going to come right away which is also one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned so far.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So personally, I’m a huge city girl. I lived in California for a really long time and I just fell in love with city life and being out at night on the town. There are places like that here but if my best friend was visiting, I would definitely take her downtown and visit the boxyard which has a lot of different restaurants and a bar. When I went for the first time I just found it super fun and it’s in the city so that just made it a lot better! The food was really good too, I personally went to the Mexican food place and it was delicious. I would also take her to Mama’s pizza because honestly that was the best pizza I’ve ever had! I forgot to mention but I’m also a huge foodie!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Okay so I really just want to give a shout-out to my mentor, boss, & Aunt: Maxima! She was the one who helped me jump head first into real estate and taught me everything that I know. She was an inspiration to me and still is and she’s still helping my business to this day. None of this would be possible without her. I also want to shout-out my Diamond Elite team members, I love all of them and the support from this amazing team that I’m on is unmatched and incredible.
