We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Bavishi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up as a child, I always gravitated towards anything creative. I fell in love with singing and music at the age of 9, and then began doing theatre around the same time. I played some sports as a kid, but never seriously. Instead, I joined theatre, and soon rehearsals and tech week became my versions of “practices” and “games.” I always knew growing up I wanted to work in a field that allowed me to be me and express my creativity. I realized that a sitting desk job might not be the best for me. I love being on the go, being on my feet, and being able to constantly come up with new ideas, songs, lyrics, etc. The thought about going down another career path that is not as creative or artistic has crossed my mind a few times. However, I get to thinking about how much I love music and the endless possibilities that exist for the music I make. I love being able to write music at my own home, or on the go, on a plane, practically everywhere. I love the freedom that comes with the career path I have decided to pursue.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently have 5 singles out, along with 2 music videos. All of these songs were released in 2021, starting with “ya we broke up,” which is a fun twist on a breakup song that is more upbeat and uplifting. I followed that single with my first music video that year. Making that music video really cemented my desire to make music be my career and life. I loved every part of making that video, even the last minute prop making! Over the next 6 months following that first song, I released 3 more songs, “Parking Garage,” “Bright Eyes,” and “Running Out Of Time.” The story behind the song “Running Out Of Time” is very personal to me, which is what makes it so special. “Running Out Of Time” was written during a very hard time in my life. My parents had decided to move across the country, over the summer right before I started college, for my dad’s job. I was devastated and knew that so many things were about to change. It was hard to comprehend and deal with, so I turned to music. I began writing about my feelings, and how I felt about the move, and eventually turned it into a song. My most recent release, “Rain,” along with another full music video, was just released in early December. With my music, my goal is not to be the number one pop star, but rather, to have people relate to my music and understand they are not alone. I want to inspire others with my music the way other artists have for me. Songwriting is always going to be an uphill battle, because as I have grown older, I’ve come to realize that not everyone is going to like your style, music, or vibe. And more importantly, I have learned that it is okay for that to happen. It can be hard not to compare ourselves, but the biggest way I am overcoming these challenges is by writing music that truly means something to me and to keep being my own unique self.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been living in Arizona for quite some time, almost 8 years now. While exploring Arizona, I have come across some super fun and adorable places that I love going to and that are a must to visit while in Arizona. If my best friend from out of town was coming to visit me, I would start by taking them to one of my favorite breakfast places in Arizona with the cutest coffee bar, The Henry. The next stop would be to show them around Scottsdale and go to the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall for some shopping. Arizona has one of the best malls that I have been to, in my opinion! For dinner, Culinary Dropout, one of my favorite places to hang out. Also, if there were any fun shows going on at the Tempe Improv, we would hit that up as well. And that would just be day 1! Day 2 would include a visit to the spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Day 3, a visit to the Musical Instrument Museum (a hidden Phoenix gem), and day 4, the Desert Botanical Garden. Day 5 and 6, I would show them that there is more to Arizona than Phoenix, and take an overnight trip up to Sedona. Sedona has some of the prettiest hikes I’ve ever done, and it is not too far of a drive from Phoenix. On the last day, my number one go-to spot for dinner, lunch, and brunch–Postinos! Postinos has some of the best food, and they have a really fun happy hour, so that would be a wonderful way to end the visit!.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserves the biggest shoutout in the world. They have been my biggest fans from the start and have been there for me every step of the way. I am so fortunate and blessed to have the parents I have. They held my hand and wiped my tears whenever I got discouraged or wanted to give up. My parents helped support my dream from the start by getting me into voice lessons. If it were not for them, I would not be the singer I am today. There have been many moments along my career that I have just wanted to quit or give up; however, my mom, dad, and younger brother, Ronan, always had my back and never let me give up. They know just how much this career means to me and how much I want to do music. They have given their all for me and helped me in the most amazing and incredible ways. I would not be where I am today without these people.
