We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Tatum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I saw this big need in the market for a model that really expressed what fitness and performance training is, as I felt like there were a lot of key elements missing that didn’t validate our industry. I wanted to change that by delivering a performance-based model that explained the whys, hows, and whats of people’s fitness and how it will not only improve their health, but also improve their quality of life – ultimately to allow them to achieve their goals and improve their performance in life and sport.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The THP brand is and will continue to strive to optimize human performance and give people the answers they’re searching for in their health, fitness, and wellness. THP aims to provide applicable answers to people’s problems, and that drives us to constantly innovate.
I am most proud of– and continue to draw inspiration from – seeing our members and our team not only embrace our vision, but understand our process. Our process to fitness and performance is our unique separator in that it supports all goals and all human beings. Once people experience the THP system, they adopt it and not only believe in it, but believe in themselves, too.
I got to where I am business-wise by learning from and observing mentors and surrounding myself with people who were exceeding at high levels. I intentionally put myself in an environment that challenged me and stimulated me and made me really expose my thought process of how things are, where they’re at, and where they’re going. No, it was not easy and I did not expect it to be. There have been many challenges along the way, but those challenges have allowed intense learning and growth through the process; one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how to scale a business or concepts. I have a vision for what impact THP and the fitness industry can have, so I seek to not just reach 1-2 people at a time, but 10, 20, 30, 100 people in a way that they can all get it and walk away thinking, “I can understand the concept. That applies to me.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to see the amazing food and culture we have in Arizona around Old Town Scottsdale and Phoenix, hike Camelback Mountain to have the reward of outstanding views after tackling the climb, and be sure to check out the AZ night life for fun after the sun is down!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shoutout to my family, who have supported me through the ups and downs, and the amazing THP team members who have progressed and owned the vision of optimizing human performance to take THP to levels I only dreamed of.
