We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Fellows and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tammy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always thought of myself as an entrepreneur. I come from a family who has always owned their own businesses, so it was never intimidating to me. I knew quickly when I entered the professional world that I would work hard to rise to the top. I had a hunger to always do better and succeed. That is, to me, the best formula for running your own gig. Besides that, being a mom of four, flexibility is key in my life. When you are the boss, you can be more flexible with your time and spend it accordingly and on the things that matter most. At the end of the day, it takes drive, dedication and a ton of hard work to run your own business. When you have these traits it’s time to get going, so YOU can begin to help others through your own business on your terms.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I absolutely LOVE what I do in my business! We get to share the amazing stories of the people of the communities we serve. We give people their day in the sun to shine above the rest. We help businesses grow and thrive. I feel we are unique because we strive to be a down-to-Earth, classy, luxurious platform allowing us to showcase people, businesses and non-profits.
I had to stumble a bit before getting to where I am. I am still humble and will remain that way, but it is a learning process. I started another business with a partner prior to this one. It was also a media business that focused primarily on national events around the country. I learned quickly, that A. partnerships are tough and B. that I needed to fail in order to succeed.
If I could share just one thing, it would be to follow your gut. You should always lead with passion and love, it will get you to where you need to be. Find the things that bring you joy and stick with them. It’s difficult to fail if you genuinely love what you do everyday!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
During the day or in the morning we would go hiking on one of my favorite trails in the area, like Camelback Mountain, Pinnacle Peak or Sunrise Trail. We would go for a fun bike ride down the Scottsdale Greenbelt and stop for a beer at PHX Beer Company on the water. We would be sure to go to one of my favorite brunch spots like Hash Kitchen, Daily Dose or Snooze to get an excellent breakfast and an over the top Bloody Mary. We would go check out Octane Raceway and Mavrix for some adult playtime. Lunch would probably include somewhere on a cool patio like, Olive & Ivy in Old Town, O.H.S.O., Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers or Goldies. We would go see a movie at Roadhouse Cinema’s (my favorite Theater). Happy Hours might include El Chorro in Paradise Valley, The Drunk Munk, Montauk or the Undertow. Dinners would include places like The Mission, Culinary Dropout in the Quarter, Salt & Lime, Orange Sky, Ocean 44 or Francine’s. Night life would include The Vine for Karaoke, Handle Bar J’s or Rockbar, Wasted Grain for dancing and to top it off our favorite dive bar, Coach House. We may also go check out Talking Stick Casino for some gambling. There are so many fun things to do in Scottsdale where I live!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give the biggest shout out to my parents. Every step of the way throughout my life and in my career, they have given me nothing but love, support and encouragement. They taught me that you can have anything you want if you work hard and dedicate yourself to going out and getting it. Second, is most definitely my husband, without his love, support and encouragement I would not be where I am today in my career or frankly my life. He knows me best and always pushes me towards what he knows makes me most happy and he is not shy about that. He is also ALWAYS my biggest cheerleader, he makes me feel like I am on top of the world. I am lucky to have him by my side in this journey. Lastly, my four kids. I have four awesome boys who are always kind and patient. They have taught me so much in life and truly were a huge inspiration to become a business owner of my own. I also love being an example for them so they can see that anything is possible and never to sell themselves short of opportunities.
