We had the good fortune of connecting with Starr Hardin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Starr, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my own business in health coaching because I want to help women obtain fitness goals that they may think are never possible to achieve. I personally spent years in a variety of fad diets and a resulting yo-yo effect in body weight, never truly understanding how to make the best nutritional choices available to me. My mission is to work with women as a guide to help them live their best healthy lives. I started my business because I want a brand that helps women understand that they are their own person. Each having different backgrounds and lifestyles which will develop their own individual wellness program, and thus helping reach their goals.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Health Coach, I have a background in competing as a Bikini Athlete in the NPC. I decided to become more knowledgeable in the how and why about the effects of diet on the human body. Of course, I planned to use this knowledge to my advantage as an athlete overall, but I quickly discovered an even greater pleasure of using it to work with other women who want to live healthier lives. With a B.A. in Communications and Fine Arts, I am now also an I.S.S.A. Certified Nutritionist. I want to share with my clients what took me years to learn about having a well-balanced lifestyle. And that with proper training, time management, and consistency, we can all be healthy and fit with flexible nutritional choices. There is definitely no one size fits all program.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Arizona, one of the most fun places to go out for drinks is Old Town Scottsdale. Mill Ave on Tempe is also fun for those of a younger crowd. I take my best friends who visit hiking in Superstition Mountains, there are many different hikes for people of all levels. For food, Downtown Gilbert has such a variety. I love Thirsty Lion, Culinary Dropout, and Kona Grill for happy hour. We could also have a great dine in movie experience at the Gilbert Alamo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my coach and mentor Shanita Patterson. She has encouraged me to push myself to do my absolute best since the very beginning. She has taught me to be confident in myself, that I can work hard and strive towards being the best. She has been such a positive guide for not just me, but for many other women who compete as bodybuilders, whether just to get out of one’s comfort zone or work towards Pro status. The effort Shanita puts towards her own goals are also an inspiration and a testimony of what she teaches.
