We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Brewer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew from a fairly young age that I wanted to own my own company but I didn’t know what I would be doing/selling and I had no idea where to begin.

During the economic downturn, between 2007-2009, I was working for a major tech company who went through massive layoffs. I was suddenly thrust into a market where jobs were scarce and I started working for an auto transportation broker.

Little did I know that this would be a masterclass in owning an operating a small business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am an auto transport broker. This means that I facilitate the transportation of vehicles across all 50 states.

I’ve been in this industry for over 11 years and I started my own company in 2020. I am most proud of cultivating a healthy book of business where moving companies trust me to take care of their customers.

Nothing worth having is easy. That is the mindset that I have adopted to help me weather the bad days. There are economic slumps, rising fuel costs, inclement weather, and all sorts of issues that make what I do difficult. I overcome those challenges by understanding that what happened yesterday doesn’t determine what will happen tomorrow.

I was able to start my business by being consistent and being a person of my word. That allowed other companies to trust me with their customers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would spend the day at Zuma beach and then I would take them for drinks at Clifton’s in DTLA. After the drinks were done we would take a ride up the coast to Malibu for dinner at Moonshadows. It overlooks the ocean and they have a lovely outdoor set up.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest supporter/mentor has been my mother. She has always been a listening ear on my rough days and a giver of sage advice. As a parent, I think it’s sometimes difficult to trust your child’s decisions ESPECIALLY if you don’t understand them. My mother never really gotten in the way of those decisions and I am so grateful for that. She allowed me to grow and mature at my own pace and she also recognized the importance of allowing me to fail. I learned some of my greatest life lessons through failure. She is a fantastic example of womanhood and I am very thankful for her.
