We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Balda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For a long period of time, I was pursuing a career that I had no passion for. I continued doing it because the money was really good, and even though the line of work was very challenging and not easy at times, it was fairly simple. I worked 8-hour days for the most part and I was good at what I did. However, I knew it wasn’t something I wanted to continue doing but I was too complacent and comfortable to leave. It was not until my father passed away last year that I realized he spent his entire life doing something he enjoyed, not for the money. He was always happy and grateful. Two months after he passed, I left the company and began working towards my own business. A quote I often refer back to is: “It is better to live a short life enjoying what you do rather than a long life spent in a miserable way” – Alan Watts. I have a vision to build a business that helps people understand how to live a healthy life, not just physically but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a fitness personal trainer & nutritionist in the West Valley of Phoenix, AZ. I handle many clients in-person helping them achieve new levels of fitness and health. I offer 1 on 1 training as well as group fitness and my training experience ranges from athletic training for speed, power, and agility, strength and endurance training, powerlifting and bodybuilding. I also have a very successful online coaching approach so I can reach people in different parts of the state/country. My goal is to help individuals become more comfortable in the gym by educating them to understand what workouts they should be doing for their specific goals, how to progress your intensity to keep growing, how to properly recover and stretch, and proper nutrition and eating habits to improve gut health, lowering body fat, enhancing the metabolism, better quality sleep, and muscle hypertrophy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have had a lot of support from friends and family, but the book Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill has given me a lot of good insight on how to live my life and pursue my desires and passions.
