We had the good fortune of connecting with Stille Skygger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stille, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve wanted nothing but to be an artist since I was a child. Even as an 8-year-old child… Art has always been like an orbit for me, and I was being drawn towards it. I started taking private painting lessons at a very young age, and I think it was like opening the doors of a world that I didn’t know what’s coming for me. My adventure that started with pencils continued for many years with pastels, acrylics and oil paints.
After a while, I started taking part in exhibitions, magazines and festivals, I decided that I wanted more. After working in many international art institutions, I realized that there were many more things that an artist with an artist background could contribute a lot more to art organizations. I could empathize better with the artists, realize their needs, and touch someone’s life in this direction. And finally, together with a few other colleagues, we decided to set up a gallery.
After all these years of adventure, I am still proud to be in the art world with the same passion. Because I didn’t think about anything else but to be in this art world. And I didn’t want anything more. I feel like I was created to create. That is why I am very happy to create new ideas, put them into practice and assume the role of a bridge between artists and art lovers in this way. In line with this momentum, I like to be intertwined with art and artists by researching, observing and learning throughout my whole life. That’s why I’ve never considered what I do as a job, it’s a lifestyle for me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a mixture of a little surreal, a little fantastic, a little on the dark side. I focus on female figures in my works. These women can sometimes belong to the Middle Ages, sometimes to the Renaissance period, sometimes to a completely utopian world. One of my most proud works is the “Salem” series. It is currently on digital display at the Salem Witch Museum. This series is very important to me because it touches on a very important position from a historical point of view.
Making it to this spot where I am right now was a hell of a journey. It was never easy. There were more downs than ups and waits along the way than I could have imagined. If your goal is very clear, it is unfortunately very, very difficult in the age we live to be able to focus without distracting yourself. We have everything to distract us. There is a very mechanical world order, but the work of artists is completely spiritual. It takes courage, effort and a lot of sacrifice to put your soul out there. When you learn to find the balance between your life and your art, and when you learn that this sacrifice is a necessity of this job, you somehow accept it and move on decently.
I want everyone to know that we are really working in good faith. The whole team, including me, is doing everything possible. We act by thinking about everyone before we implement all the ideas that come to our mind. We always focus on the ”best art”. There are so many great talents out there waiting to be discovered. If we manage to touch them all in some way, if we can add even a little something to their lives, only then we can experience the comfort of doing our duty.
