Meet Sunshine Ellis | Property Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sunshine Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sunshine, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
HI there, I do not work for myself. I work for a stellar company called Avenue5. I have been in Property Management for over 18 years. I love the industry, the partners and the company I work for and with. I would say the biggest contributor to my success in property management is dedication, determination to succeed and being dependable. I like to give my all to everything I do for my career. I would be nowhere today without the support of my team, friends and family. Who your surround yourself with really helps you to succeed. If you have a strong team, desire and commitment, you can make goals and help each other achieve what each one wants out of life personally and professionally. Showing up to work on time is just the beginning and giving it your all is the end result. Support each other and watching others grow brings me happiness and I am proud of the ones who have taking the wheel and reached their destination. I am thankful, grateful and appreciate everyday that I have the chance to help others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work for an amazing company called Avenue5. I currently manage Kota North Scottsdale. 736 apartment homes in North Scottsdale. I have approximately 20 employees and it is never a dull moment. It definitely keeps me busy. Working 12 hour days is normal. There is always a challenges to overcome and rise above. I have over 1,500 residents and all have many different personalities. The goal is to take care of them in the way they need taken care of. It is not always easy but it is rewarding to help ones fin their home and make sure they are taken care of during their stay. Whether it is 3 months or 20 years. (Yes, some have lived here that long) They all should be treated with respect and their issues should be addressed within a timely manner. Communications always the key, Having a strong team that helps support each other and the residents helps a community stay a community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Scottsdale their is so much to do. Everything from dining to shopping. Our location is located next to MacDowell Mountains. Greatest hiking trail Gateway Trail at McDowell Mountain Ranch. Minutes from Kota north Scottsdale. Shopping, you have Scottsdale Quarter or Desert Ridge. Many amazing restaurants to choose from. Top 3 – Maple and Ash, Toca Madera and Ocean 44.
We are also located next to West World that brings the Barrett Jackson and other amazing trade shows. Also, close by is the PGA – Waste Management Open which is walking distance to the Golf Course.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, David Ellis. His support, encouragement and love has definitely help me grow within my career. David is a surgical nurse for John C. Lincoln Hospital. During the Covid-19 pandemic I have seen him continuously help others and stay strong for family members who have lost loved ones. This encourages me to keep going and help others in other ways in Property Management as well. Example- Joining the Arizona Multi Housing Association and being on the UMOM committee. Helping families that have lost everything and have to start over. This includes everything from housing to education. It is an honor to be able to help and give back to the community.
