We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Paige and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been involved in the art world for fifty five years beginning with my first class at age ten at The Art Institute of Chicago. I graduated with an Art Degree from Northern Illinois University and was also the director of the art gallery in the student union. My success in the art business comes from creating art in conjunction with being in the business end through management of various art galleries and art venues as well as teachinng art marketing. Making ones way through the business aspect of art is challenging because as an artist, I also had to wear a marketing and business hat. Since I love both, I have created many successes for my art career. One of the ways I am successful in getting recognition for my art, is that I have helped other artists along the way through my curating many exhibitions that give other artists and myself lots of varied exposure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Heard Museum and Phoenix Art Museum then to Lou Malnati’s for deep dish pizza. The Superstition Museum and walk around the base of the Superstition Mountain for a breathtaking and soul inspiring day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother who is 93, graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1952 and had a associate’s degree from The Goodman Theater. She enrolled me in my first art class at age ten at The Art Institute of Chicago. I was also taking piano, dance and acting lessons throughout my early years. Her keeping me active in these areas fueled my confidence in my life long creative approach to all aspects of my life.
