We had the good fortune of connecting with Taunya Altamirano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taunya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been spending years working 60 hours a week for other companies to be successful and burning myself out to a point that my health was affected. I had learned that it does not matter how much of yourself that you give to a company, in the end they are all about them and their success. I understand that they are in business to make money at the same time I began to see that you can treat your staff well and still be successful. In fact, you might be more successful. I asked myself why don’t I spend that much time and energy making my own company successful Being burnt out meant that I really needed to find something I was passionate about and also a company that would help me get started. So the research began!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Live Love Drink Travel is a travel agency and blog. We help plan memorable adventures designed just for you. We spend the time to discover what your dream vacation is and then work step by step and hand in hand to plan that memorable adventure. I like to say, my clients become family and friends. To date that remains true. I chat with all of my clients on a pretty regular basis.
Starting a Travel Agency during a Pandemic is hard, stressful and can be downright exhausting at times. So far it has been worth it. I love my clients, I truly love what I do and anything worth its value has to be earned! That alone proves that I have perseverance to fight. That means I fight for myself and my clients. Make sure that their trips are the best that I can from start to finish. When something goes wrong we are on the phone with the supplier to find out how to rectify that within a convenient time frame. My clients happiness is the most important model I have.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man. This is what I love. The planning part!
I would start out with one of the many great pizza places we have locally or perhaps a sushi joint. I know you wouldn’t think AZ would have a lot great pizza or sushi places, but I have traveled and I can tell you we have some pretty good ones.
Then I would take them up to Cottonwood to enjoy a day of wine tasting and sites. It is so beautiful and they offer great wines. Mainstreet in particular for evening wine tasting and stay on Main street as well. The Tavern Inn is fantastic.
If they are adventurous I would set up a Jeep Tour in Sedona or maybe a Vortex Tour. Depending on preference or course.
There are so many great things in AZ to do and explore. Again, you take the time to design the trip for your clients!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Derek. Through it all he was quite and processed my proposal of a future we wanted and were trying to find. Once he processed, we decided to pull the trigger and haven’t looked back since. My future is his future and that makes it our future! We are the best team out there!
