We had the good fortune of connecting with Terre Steed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terre, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to peruse an artistic career because I couldn’t have done anything else and been happy. I worked corporate jobs all through my 20’s and was depressed, unsuccessful,, and generally miserable. There are a lot of trade offs, but the benefits far outweigh the challenges.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I guess you could say I’m a jack of all trades. By day I’m a make up artist and hairstylist in a salon that I own. But I’m also a make up and hair Designer for Theatre, television, film and print. I am also a musician and actor. I made the decision long ago that I didn’t have to choose one facet of my passions to focus on. That I could literally do them all. And while it can be incredibly challenging and time-consuming. It brings my soul such joy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have so many great restaurants in town. So there should be no shortage of good food to be had. Fez, Gallo Blanco, Mi Patio, Rosie McCaffrey’s. Also considering the fact that I live downtown. There’s so many great things to see and do. The Japanese friendship garden. The botanical gardens. The Irish cultural center Not to mention all the great bars and pubs around like Bliss ReBar, The Rock, and Stacey’s. And I would most definitely take them to see a theater production at the Phoenix theater company or Stray Cat theater
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely my chosen family. I do not have a traditional family background, and to me a chosen family has always meant more because I CHOSE to have them in my life. I have a circle of chosen family that have been an integral part of my life since I was 18 years old. I don’t know where I would be without them. They have been supportive, tough, kind, and loving beyond belief.
