We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrel Alexander I and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terrel, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Milwaukee Wisconsin. Growing up in Milwaukee, The Mil as we call it, provided a great sense of culture and togetherness. At one point Milwaukee was known for it’s strong entrepreneurial presence. My father being one of them. He worked for a prominent factory in Milwaukee and invested his earnings into two night clubs, named Godfather’s and Jazz City.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My clothing company Body Armour Clothing Co. was given and inspired by God, so I take pride in that and I make sure I stay inspired by Him and never run the business, design, or market my business without Him. There have been people of interest, investors, and close friends that have suggested that I would gain a larger customer base if I took God out of my brand. I decline that advice every time, lol. That’s what sets me apart from others and I’m perfectly OK with that. God is how I got where I am today. I have learned that personal life and business are two separate entities and for me it was very challenging. During the last ten years my personal life has caused so many ups and downs in my business life. Personally I suffered through my daughter, who was five at the time, fighting an aggressive battle with ovarian cancer, and we thank God she survived. Not even a year later my father suffered a major stroke and I had to take care of him and move him in with my family. During this time my wife and I separated and divorced. During our separation and divorce proceeding I loss both of my parents. This type of stress impacted my business tremendously, and I ended up taking a break from Body Armour and concentrating on rebuilding my life, and caring for my children. Today I am remarried with two more beautiful kids. I was able to relaunch Body Armour Clothing Co. early 2020. Every brand and business has a story and this happens to be mine. God gets all the glory! I am thankful and hopeful that Body Armour will make a great comeback!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
When my family and friends come to visit me in the Phoenix area, I make sure I show them the experience of a life time! So first things first, nothing beats a breakfast that you can’t get anywhere but Phoenix! So I’ll take them to Lo Lo’s Chicken and Waffles in down town Phoenix straight from the airport Monday morning. Now on Tuesday, I’ll take them to get groomed up with a fresh hair cut from the Cut Barber Shop located in the heart of Maricopa Az. Later that night, it’s on! We get our wife’s together and take them to enjoy some drinks, poetry, and live jazz music from Phoenix AZ,s very own, The Nash Jazz Club, music to your ears. Now for most of my friends, they still have a business to run and check in on, so Wednesday morning I load up the bikes and go biking and stopping over at the Bicycle Nomad Cafe’ in down town Phoenix for great coffee and pastries taking care of some business on our lap tops, while enjoying their beautiful decor. Thursday, for dinner, It’s time to fill their bellies with the one and only award winning barbecue restaurant in AZ. So we will all head over to Trapp Hasus Bar-B-Que on Roosevelt St. and indulge ! Whenever your in the Phoenix area, you can’t leave without seeing live theater from The Black Theatre Troupe, so that’s our plans for Friday night, you won’t be disappointed. Now Saturday is known for shopping, so I’ll take them to Scottsdale and Chandler Fashion malls for the ultimate shopping experience. To add icing on the the cake, I would take them to our very own clothing brands and custom clothing outfits in the phoenix area, so I’ll take them to meet the owner of Filthy Cloth & Co. as well as Day 2 Day Inspired Tees to take back something fresh, street, and exclusive back home with them. Well, Sunday is finally here and it’s time, for the trip to end until the next time. So with that being said, I have my wife and I cook them a family style breakfast before taking them to experience great worship and an awesome word from God over at my home church World Outreach and Bible Training Center in Maricopa Az. after church, enjoy a great meal at The Chop, Block & Brew Restaurant in Ak- Chin Casino. That’s not all, to make their trip even better, I would have to order some famous Sweet Jesus Gourmet Cupcake! Sending them home on a sugar high! And I can’t forget to send them packing with some Body Armour Clothing Co. gear and an autograph copy of my wife’s book, #TheWombKeeper, to read on the plane as a parting gift! So if you are ever in the Phoenix area be sure to look up a few of the places I mentioned. See you soon!
