Meet Tiffany FIlimon: Makeup Artist & Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany FIlimon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up in the beauty industry, my grandmother owns a salon back in my home town in Michigan. I truly looked up to her and her business, At a young age I would help her with her books, writing out checks etc. for the salon. I thought it was fun! I was so interested in what it took to run her business. I tried working office jobs or at makeup counters/salons. I always felt so limited and like I was capable of so much more! When I acknowledged the hard work I was putting towards others dreams is when I realized I needed to live my own. I decided in 2014 that I was going to take a leap of faith and start my own concierge makeup & hair services. I’m so happy I took that leap because now I am doing what Iove & am so grateful for every client that has supported me & helped me grow along the way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been into very editorial & creative makeup. I started doing makeup back home in Michigan for photoshoots only. The shoots I was hired for let me be creatively free. That’s when I first started doing lip art. It’s something that really stood out to me, was unique & something I never saw in magazines, etc. Fast forward to 2015 when I started really posting my lip art online. I was discovered by a few brands that had me start doing lip swatches & looks for them. From there I started growing & was discovered by Girlactik that really helped me in so many ways see my potential. I started going to makeup events meeting other creators, taking classes & so much more that opened doors for me. Has it been easy for me though? Absolutely not, behind what everyone sees on their phones of my work has taken very hard work. And still is very hard work, I am still trying to grow more. between skill level, clientele & to do what I truly love doing which is editorial and commercial work. It all takes time. I’ve had to learn all of my strengths & weaknesses along the way. I’ve had to keep up with all of the latest trends. Also, instagram is HUGE for marketing & showing off your work these days so editing & photography where skill sets I had to learn as well. I’m always learning something new! But I honestly love it that way. That’s one of the best parts about this industry, you could never get bored with how much is evolving & changing. Keeps it fun! That’s why I love what I do so much! I hope my work can speak for itself & my passion for what I do speaks through it.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My bestfriend from back home was actually just here last week & we tried to go to as many places as possible for her to really experience AZ. We went up to Sedona, hiked, swam, ate over in old town, walked around the area & just enjoyed quality time together. I think it’s all about the people you’re with and the time you have together so no matter where you go it will always be a good time. Plus you can never get enough of these Arizona sunsets & scenery anywhere you go!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is so many people that helped me grow, learn & become the artist I am today. The owner of the brand Girlactik, Galit discovered me & my instagram back in 2016. Galit helped me see my potential & believed in me without even really knowing me. She also introduced me to the studio I worked out of OG Beauty. The owners of OG introduced me to so many artists locally & in the LA area. One of the artists at OG @B00scar.beauty (Oscar) helped me early on at OG by taking me under his wing multiple times to mentor with him. Also, @Chanelmolleobeauty (Chanel) who did the same for her on location weddings & then hired me on to be on her beauty team in 2019. And Caribe from channel 12 news. We met at a coffee shop a few years ago. I ended up doing her makeup for a special event & she loved it so much that she had me audition to work with the rest of the station for headshots for multiple occasions. Working with all of the anchors & staff was an experience I’m so grateful for. There’s so many others that have taught me so much & supported me. I truly wouldn’t be where I’m at today without them believing in me & their trust in my work.
