We had the good fortune of connecting with Timber Times and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timber, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I created HighIQ somewhat out of the blue. I struggled throughout college as I had difficulty concentrating on my tasks and figuring out my career choice. In fact, I had an intense fear of graduating college. Prior to making this decision to start my own business, I’d worked in numerous corporate and retail jobs and realized, it was not for me.

However, I felt stuck and didn’t know how to create my own path towards entrepreneurship. So in the meantime, I did more freelance work such as video editing and DJing while still attending school. One day I mentioned “HighIQ” during a conversation and thought, “Wow. That would be a cool name for a clothing brand. It could be all about aliens and educating yourself and what not.”.

Well, I took that thought, and I ran with it. With all the other difficulties in my life, I realized that I had no choice but to take this path. I felt I could give so much more to the world by moving forward with my business and taking it, and myself, seriously.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m very proud of HighIQ and the message it conveys. That’s what makes it different: it’s a clothing brand with a deeper purpose. Our mission is to Elevate Minds Across the Globe. I love that HighIQ targets such a niche group of people while still providing something that anyone could benefit from.

The idea has roughly remained the same since it’s inception, however, it took a while for me to develop the core meaning. At first I was fighting back at society. I felt misunderstood and unheard, but I knew there had to be others like me and I wanted to speak to those souls. Ultimately, this led to my desire to help people elevate their lives. Sending this message through clothing and accessories is great because its something that can represent you while making a statement. I’m excited that I have the chance to touch so many people.

Getting to this point has been a real battle. Not only are you going against the naysayers, but you’re also fighting against yourself. Its definitely not easy. You must develop new habits and get rid of negative thought patterns. In addition, entering into an unfamiliar industry has a fairly steep learning curve. Mastering your craft, finding the right products, and generating fresh ideas takes a lot of time.

I’ve learned so much about myself and others. Being true to yourself is one of the most important things you can do in your lifetime. I’ve also realized that true happiness comes from within. If you work hard for something, the results shall follow.

I want the world to know that my heart is in HighIQ and that I am dedicated to creating a new path and opportunities for society at large.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is known for its nightlife and beaches but there are some other cool locations to see. Whenever someone comes though, I make sure to take them there first.

We could start the day off by going to this breakfast spot near mid-beach where I always get a great omelette. Then we can hang out on the sand, hit the volleyball around, or sleep. There’s nothing like a good nap on the beach. On Tuesday, we could go to the mall and later that night visit Wynwood to get some tacos from Coyo Taco. Of course we would have to pass by Top Golf one of those days. The one by Dolphin Mall has the best Chili’s near it.

For the rest of the week, I would take us to the chill nature spots. One morning we could walk on Black Pointe Trail and watch the sunrise. Its a must that we come back for lunch at Black Pointe Grill where they have the best crispy chicken sandwiches and spinach dip.

We’d also have to go to Fruit and Spice Park in The Redlands. Its a super hot nature walk but an amazing place to visit. Afterwards we’ll stop by the milkshake spot where there’s a mini farm attached. I’m sure by this time of the week we’d be exhausted and probably wouldn’t want to do anything other than eat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to the people who truly believe in me. It can get pretty lonely and its nice to know that there are those who want to see me succeed. I would like to thank God as well. If it wasn’t for his guidance, I wouldn’t have made it this far.

The book, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill, also deserves a mention. This book entered my life at the beginning of my journey. It opened my eyes to the world and the limitless potential that we behold.
