We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Greggo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to basically do my own thing and treat my clients special. The only way to do that was starting my own business which took great courage! But it was the best thing I ever did!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love being challenged creatively in my career as well as in my life. Being given the opportunity to explore the many ways to be different and stand out was a career awakening for me. I was always someone that drew outside of the lines, so being creative was never a problem. I am wired to always go above and beyond for my clients, family and friends, so it’s natural for me. It was that ability that has helped me gain the trust I needed from people to get bookings in the beginning which has brought me here today with a successful photography business. When I photograph a person’s special day, event or significant time in someone’s life I like to leave them with artistic imagery that makes them feel they have something no-one else has. It’s important for me to treat and make my clients feel exceptional throughout their entire experience with me. I have had the great pleasure to be working with my daughter, Chandler. She has been with me since she was 16. We love working together and we are a great team! It is so gratifying to see her follow in my footsteps and achieve great self satisfaction from knowing her own talent. I couldn’t be more proud. I am grateful to be in a position that I am able to give back to my community by volunteering my services to non-profits here in the valley. Their are a few that are dear to my heart that I have been working with for many years and I plan to continue those relationships. Mentoring kids that are interested in photography is another way I love to be involved in the community. I am excited to get back to work and see my clients that I have booked 2 years ago. This past year has been challenging to say the least, but it gave me a chance to re-think my business strategy and catch up on some on-line learning. I am energized and ready to go! I’ve learned that if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will either. You have to keep doing your best and never give up just because you don’t get that dream job or someone may tell you your not good enough (which I know from experience!). Someone once said “Success is not an accident”, which I believe with all my heart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Sedona! I love the Grand Canyon! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE downtown Phoenix. I would take them to lots of eateries downtown. I would take them to a Diamondbacks baseball game and maybe even a Spring training game. I love Lake Pleasant! My favorite thing to do is rent a pontoon boat and spend the day on the lake. I love to hike too, so I would take them hiking in Cave Creek.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My inspiration came from many on-line tutorials and classes, mostly from WPPI, but also from all the clients that put their faith in me when I had little experience and trusted me to photograph their special event or take their family portraits. Putting that trust in me made all the difference in my success over the years. It helped me believe in myself and strive to keep doing better. I owe it all to them!
