We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I love taking risks because I have no fear. Taking Risks involve having confidence and not being afraid of failure. Risk Takers don’t believe in in failure. Risk takers never give up and keep striving for success no matter how many of life blows come at them. They take a licking and keep on ticking. Risks takers continue to move forward at all costs. This whole journey of starting a military store came with a risk. I decided to stop working for someone and work for myself when I saw the amount of money I was making and the same amount of hard work I was putting in to working for someone, I was making more working for myself. The only difference was I was responsible for everything it entailed and weather this endeavor would succeed or fail. With my faith in God, I knew if I had this desire in my heart, He would not let it fail, but, I would have to put my trust in him and have a whole lotta of elbow grease too.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I come from a luxury background. I lived in Frace for 7 years and worked for LV while there. When I came back, I worked as an account executive for European markets for a luxury handbag company and then I worked at the corporate office of Rolex. I decided to sell for myself when I saw vendors on the street selling art in front of central park in Manhattan, NY, I came up with the concept of a boutique Military surplus store due to my background, thinking why surplus stores always looked so drab and unkempt. Our service members deserve much better. So, we made it a nice relaxing atmosphere with chairs and a bar setting so we can serve those who served. We are happy that people come here and feel free to let loose and talk about whatever is bothering them and know that we are listening and can offer prayer anytime they ask. We have a lot of veterans who call our little store a safe space where they feel no judgement and speak their true feelings. This Journey would not be rated easy, but I never looked at it as hard or easy. I saw it as something I had to do to succeed. so, waking up at 3 am to drive 2 hrs. to be at the VA at 5pm in the winter and unloading my vehicle of heavy bins of merchandise in 5 trips then setting up in 3 hrs. may look very hard and difficult but to me it was just part of the Job. I’ve learned no matter how long it takes don’t give up; you never know where your dreams will take you. We Also implemented a Museum In the store! We have historical artifacts from different time periods up to present day We want our customers to know that we are not just a military store we are a ministry also building Gods army for a fallen world. we have prayer meeting every Tuesday @ 6pm at the store. We have seen people healed, addictions broken, and relationships rebuilt all in Jesus Name.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to an American legion on a karaoke night. We could eat drink and hang out with some cool veterans and hear their stories while listening to some good music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank God and the people he has put in my life to help me in this journey to make this all happen. from me selling on the street and meeting that lady who got me a fixed spot in front of a store in Harlem to sell my crafts. to the customer who encouraged me to sell in the VA hospital and fixed a meeting for me with the canteen chief. To my Friend Jerry and veterans who helped me with learning to drive and loading and unloading my merchandise and setting up at the VA. To friends that helped lay the flooring and add shelving when we got the brick and mortar, to the donations from friends and customers that helped build the museum aspect of the store, to the volunteers that helped work in the store while we were growing. to the people who attend our prayer meeting every Tuesday evening when we close @ 6pm- This is the purpose of this store. to heal and help the broken hearted and disadvantaged to give them hope in Jesus Name.
