We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyree York and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyree, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting G.R.E.A.T Training (Getting Right Everyday At Training) was to teach life lessons through the game of basketball and fitness. In basketball, there are multiple components that equates to success of the sport such as hard work, dedication, communication, etc. Life is very similar in that aspect. As a former college basketball athlete, I have experienced many lessons in my life and career that propelled me to greatness. I want to use those lessons to inspire the next generation in my community, on and off the court.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Before starting Great Training, I was previously a Food and Beverage Manager for the W Chicago City Center for 2.5 years and a Leasing Agent for AMLI Management where I sold over $3 million dollars in real estate. With this experience, it allowed me to develop my business acumen, time management, organizational skills and so much more.
I’ve always had a passion for basketball. The thought of combining my passion of basketball with the skills Ive developed in my business career, led to the birth of G.R.E.A.T Training.
What makes Great Training so great are the testimonies that come to life based on the values of hard work and dedication. Personally, Great Training has been embedded into my life since I was a kid. For 18 years in counting, I’ve been dedicated to perfecting my craft. Going to the gym has never been a problem, I’ve always been a gym rat. Since I was 14 years old, I had a basketball trainer. He really propelled my high school career with valuable lessons that not only translated into basketball, but life itself. When I got to college, I applied those lessons and they were magnified on a higher level. Those experiences aided in creating my testimony. Currently, Great Training is creating more living testimonies for others to give back to their own communities through the principles that have been instilled into my brand. That is what I am most proud and excited about! The goal of Great Training is to develop generational leaders to be examples of greatness in every aspect of their lives.
Every business has their challenges. G.R.E.A.T Training has yet to deal with many challenges, however, the core values of the brand has created the foundation to affectedly overcome future challenges and is preparing us to learn lessons along the way. The lessons that come from those challenges are a full representation of what G.R.E.A.T Training is all about: hard work and dedication to overcome obstacles which then leads to greatness. That’s what you need to know about our brand.
