We had the good fortune of connecting with Urshula Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Urshula, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance changed when my oldest brother was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. At the time I was working part time as an hairstylist and full as Fraud Recovery Agent for Chase. I worked 7 days a week. As my clientele was picking up not only was I becoming exhausted from working two jobs and I sacrificed a lot of my family time. That point on I had a gut feeling that it was time for me leave Chase. So I took a leap in faith put my two weeks notice in so I could follow my dream. Loosing my brother to cancer made me realize how important it’s to create memories because not every day is promised. When I think of balance I think of evaluating how my mind and body feels. Creating a schedule that helps me execute thing that need to be done but also making time for things I value outside of work.
What should our readers know about your business?
As a hairstylist what sets me apart from other hairstylist is I focus on scalp issues and helping my clients start their natural hair journey. I am most excited about my online course I created to teach other hairstylist how become the highest paid in their city. How to find their niche, create their brand and how to market their business being natural hair care specialist too. It has not been easy but I rely on my faith being a Christian. I put trust in God and he has allowed me to be a first time mom giving birth to my daughter Azaria during the pandemic while allowing my business thrive during a time like this. I learned along the way that it takes self discipline and that if you want to be successful you have to show up for your business. I want the world to know that that if I can do it you can too. That woman with texture hair should feel empowered too. Which is why I created the Royal Silk Press service woman with texture hair should also be able to receive spa like treatments that rejuvenate their mind and scalp.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take her to Hash Kitchen for brunch. I love the atmosphere, creative food and drinks. Scottsdale Fashion Square mall to do some shopping. Of course have to visit family owned business LoLo’S Chicken & Waffles for comfort food. We love to dance so we head to Old Town Scottsdale for great music. For relaxation get pedicures and massage at Thai Foot Massage. Drive up to Sedona to look at the beautiful view and meditate.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my mentors Arlette Pender, Dashonna Taylor & Jasmine Williams. My oldest brother Tikey Patterson who was the first entrepreneur I knew. My mom, Dad who helped me put my salon together and helps with my daughter. Last my boyfriend Lovell who is my biggest supporter.
