We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Espinosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
First off, I’d like to be able to focus 100% of my time and energy on growing my baking business. It has been a side gig for several years. I want to move into my own space – either a commercial kitchen or small shop. My end goal is to establish a successful brand and then sell the business in 10 years.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I also specialize in healthier options like Vegan, gluten free and no refined sugar. As my mom says, I bake for the sinners and the saints! For me, baking is a form of artistic expression. Food nurtures us and brings us together and when I create in my kitchen it is truly my happy place. I pride myself not only on offering delicious hand crafted bakery items but also with a beautiful presentation.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend in town, I would definitely schedule at least one hike on one of the many local trails. I’d plan a day trip up north to Cottonwood and Jerome area. There are several wineries there. Alcantara makes great wine and is a great spot to sit and enjoy some wine and snacks. I’d try to go see some live music downtown, either at the Van Buren or Crescent Ballroom. Cibo is a wonderful Italian restaurant in the area. We’d go there before the show and then afterwards for a night cap, either Lux Coffee or the Welcome Diner. Obviously I’d cook for them. In addition to wonderful desserts I also make excellent Mexican food. I’d also try to plan a brunch. I like Tonto Bar and Grill up in Cave Creek.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this to my children, Chloe’ and Cisco. They have always believed and supported me. In fact, the name “Mixing Magic” was inspired by them. When they were young and I’d cook or bake for them they would say, “Mom is making magic in the kitchen again!”.
My daughter, Chloe’, is an amazing actress and has created her own YouTube series called When Frida Met Bob Marley. It’s short clips about life with her hilarious cat named Bob Marley. @chloeantonieta My son is a very talented guitar player and sound engineer. @_cisco_17
