We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvonne Matejka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yvonne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was for the ability to curate my own branding, expand my reach & have freedom. The goal of entrepreneurship is to have multiple streams of income doing what you love. For me, that’s helping others feel empowered through music and finding the perfect place to come home to. I’ve always been creative, so why not monetize that?
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
On the real estate side, it was important for me to really help people understand that buying is not something that is out of reach for them. Many people spend astronomical amounts to rent, when they could actually buy and build a strong financial foundation for their future. For the DJ side of my business, most people don’t realize that behind the glamour comes a lot of hard work and days where you want to quit. Everyone sees the DJ life on social media and it looks amazing (which it can be), but it’s extremely competitive and male dominated. It’s not a game for the weak. Having a mentor in both my businesses was vital at the start and made me the person I am today. Thank you Joseph & Aladin! I want people to remember the way that I made them feel. I want them to remember the laughs we had, the shared goals, the empowerment I was able to provide and how I impacted the quality of their life – for the moment or for their lifetime.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sedona is on the top of my list for places to visit. I love the peacefulness of the town and beautiful scenery. Indian Gardens is my favorite spot to grab breakfast on their outdoor patio near Oak Creek and for lunch I always recommend Thai Palace Uptown. The hiking trails are countless and visiting one of the vortexes is a must. Every time I visit Sedona, I stop by the Amitahba Stupa Peace Park to regroup myself. As for Scottsdale dining, I’m a huge fan of Toca Madera, SumoMaya & Slanted Rice. Riding bikes on the canal trails and kayaking Camelback lake are a must as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my parents. Without their support and encouragement over the years, I wouldn’t be where I am today!
