We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvonne Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yvonne, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would have to say my Hustle. Without it I wouldn’t have what I do. It plays such a big role in starting off. It pushes you to do more and want more. I have a saying I believe in very much “The Hustle Never Sleeps” because behind every successful business/brand is a lot of taking work home with you and where ever you go! It’s never ending but is always well worth it. If you have the drive then you have a hustle! From there on, the rest is history!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
VivaLaVonNails really started taking off about 3yrs ago now in downtown Phoenix! That’s where my creativity juices really started, being that I was located in the heart of what is known as The Art District! Its definitely a place that brought out the best in me! When I was in DTPHX I started to brand myself, I was the only nail tech at that time with shirts, stickers and promo videos out! That kinda move put me on a whole different level! Being that I was the only nail artist at that time doing things like that! So it helped me get my name out there even more! Working downtown was my legit first time renting my own station so building a solid clientele was my biggest challenge! So branding myself was key and by far the best thing I did for my business! Currently I specialize in Nail shaping, Bling, and now Lettering/Nail Art. Another challenge for me was getting down on more nail art, I’ve always been my own worst critic! So I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and have been killing it! I’m not like any nail artist you know or have seen before because of the business choices I make. Outside of nails, people know me for supporting all my local businesses. In doing so I’ve done some really cool collaborations with artists out of my industry! From custom illustrations, photo/video shoots and even a candy collaborations! Supporting my locals is something I take pride in! So remember to always support your locals! Also be on the look out for some new collaborations and merchandise I have coming!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we’d stop at The Spot a Beauty for a spa day! Then head to DownTown Phoenix! My favorite place to be! Grab some food at either Taco Chelo, Jobot Coffee & Bar, or The Vig on Fillmore! Then after we would head down to my favorite place Bliss ReBar for some amazing drinks and good service from my Bliss family! For brunch I would have to hit up the amazing roof top bar At the Cambria Hotel! That view is beautiful at night, and they have a new drag show that happens every month! Another cool spot We would hit is Cobra Arcade Bar! Nothing like drinks good music and some old school games! All my local and favorite spots to hit up!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My clients. Without you VivaLaVonNails wouldn’t be. I’m forever grateful for you all!
