We had the good fortune of connecting with Zander Shine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zander, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is how important it is to create a brand identity fans can connect with that is incorporated into my music, visuals, and online presence. It’s super important for listeners to be able to relate and connect to the music but to really gain a fan you need a brand and image that they resonate with. The process of building an image as an artist in ongoing and constantly evolving but beginning with a timeless logo, high quality visuals, tracks and collaborations that really show who you are as an artist, and a social media presence is the key to getting started. Remaining consistent with those elements help to establish you in the music industry and build a fanbase.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say something that sets me apart from other artists would be the sound design in my music production. I like to experiment with combining acoustic elements and electronic sound design in my composition to give my project a unique element. I also have been really into blending genres, and the outcome has been really great end result.

Right now I’m most proud of getting my first major record deal last year with Universal Music group. I’m also super excited because in just a few weeks I’m going to be traveling to Amsterdam for ADE which is the largest electronic music conference in the world. I have a show booked at the event to perform live and can’t wait to meet with friends overseas.

A lesson that I’ve learned from being in the music industry is to listen to your gut instinct, and stay true to yourself no matter what. It’s been a long process to get where I am today, but has been well worth it and excited to see where this path leads me. As far as my brand and artist project, I released my first single earlier this year, and I’m really starting to ramp things up and rapidly develop myself as an artist and going to have a lot more things going in motion later this year into next year, so stay tuned.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite food is sushi so I would take them to my favorite restaurant in Scottsdale, Nobu. For activities, I’d recommend TopGolf or Putt Shack at The Scottsdale Quarter. We also have a racing school and a sky diving simulator for something a bit more audacious. There’s a bunch of great places to grab drinks in town too. During the night there’s always something fun going on but recently Barstool is always a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One organization that helped me become the producer I am today, without a doubt is Berklee School of Music – I’ve been able to further my production skills and learned a ton about the business and marketing side of the music industry.

I’ve also made lasting connections of both established artists and industry professionals who’s feedback and support I’ve received has been invaluable to launching my artist project. Encouragement and mentorship go along way and I appreciate feedback, and of course without my education I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today.
