The Eureka Moment

Our city is home to so many incredible businesses and so we asked the founders how they came up with the ideas for their businesses and have shared their responses below.
When I was 17, I started working at Office Depot. I started as a cashier but then I was quickly transferred to copy & print. I caught on fast, really fast. The customers loved the designs with office depots quality. At 19, I moved on to something else but ultimately loved designing. Then an opportunity presented itself . My best friend was getting married 2016 and I was the maid of honor. I was in charge of designing and planning everything. I did such a good job on the invitations, bridal shower and decor that people asked for my information. I took that and continued to practice and perfect designing. Read more>>
Like every business idea, it should fulfill a need and provide value. Mine was birthed from personal experience. I, Founder and CEO of CONVICTED GENTLEMEN, INC., was released from Arizona’s Department of Corrections in August 2018. The transition from prison to becoming a contributing member of society is no easy task. “We” as convicted felons face many obstacles on our path to success; one of which is lack of meaningful opportunity. Some are unfamiliar but, upon being released from prison, there are many requirements you must abide by to satisfy parole stipulations and, in the event you fail to meet these expectations, they will send you back to prison. My business idea came together as the intersection of what I was looking for in a job, my skills, and what excites me in life. I knew I wanted to start my own business for several reasons: increased flexibility in my work schedule and location, and to pursue my longtime dream of being an entrepreneur. I was considering an art-based business because I knew I had artistic skills (I won several art competitions in high school and since then had done many pieces as graduation or wedding presents for friends) and I loved doing art.
