What’s the right work-life balance for you?

Our community is filled with hard-working, high achieving entrepreneurs and creatives and so work-life balance is a complicated, but highly relevant topic. We’ve shared some responses from the community about work life balance and how their views have evolved over time below.

When I first started producing art and marketing my name and work at the age of fifteen, my work life balance was severely uneven. Summer break would become my grind season. This is a really spot on question for me regarding my work. Ten years ago I was working what I thought was my dream job, at a large natural foods co-op as a Wellness Consultant. At the time I thought it was a perfect fit with my background as a Health Educator. In about 2013, I developed a condition called Meniere’s Disease which first manifested with some minor hearing loss, tinnitus and unbalance. Read more>>

My work life balance has changed drastically over the years. When I was younger, I worked odd jobs at odd hours and would spend massive amounts of time in the studio with no breaks. I also hung out with friends and went to see live music constantly, as I had the time and no real liabilities. I now have two kids, run a business, and go to school part time while also trying to sustain my passion for music. Read more>>

Because we travel for work, my time outside of the house is “work” and my time at home is “vacation.” I used equate hours worked with money earned, but I have slowly realized that this may not be the right perspective for me. I’ve learned over the years that rest is just as beneficial as work, and there needs to be both in order for my business to thrive. Read more>>
