Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

Art and creativity have always been a really important part of my life. I’ve been drawing and painting since I can remember and always saw myself doing this for a living. I was always a very artistic person. Since I was very young I loved to research art movements and had a fascination with architecture. Most of all I admired creative photography and manipulation photography. After graduating from a Computer Science program I felt compelled to take what I had learned in school and combine that with my photography skills. I decided to expand my knowledge in the exciting world of social media content creation and help businesses create visuals for their products or services. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. I’m quite the cliché really. I discovered my creative nature from a tender age. I was naturally inclined to different ways of expressing myself through music. Singing to be specific was evidently a talent that my pre school teachers and Mom picked on early and helped to nurture. I was that kid who always had a song presentation at school, I sang along to almost every TV commercial at home, I tried out numerous talent shows and quickly learnt songs in readiness for Sunday church performances.
