Why they do what they do

We asked some of the city’s leading artists and creatives to tell us about how they decided to pursue an artistic or creative career. We’ve shared some highlights below.
I chose to be a professional singer songwriter and musician because, to put it in simple terms, it was what I was best at, & what came most naturally to me. My parents were both artists as well, but had conformed to the more traditional work force when I was young in order to support my brother and I. While they remained as artistic and creative as ever, I saw the toll working for someone else had on their soul and creative muse’s. I didn’t end up where I am today overnight. When I had my 3-year-old son, I needed an outlet. He was born with a heart deformity, and I was having a tough time with anxiety, being a mom of 3 at the time and going to so many doctor appointments. He ended up with a feeding tube which was really tough at the time for the both of us. Before I started my business I started getting into social media, specifically Instagram. It was the feeling I felt the first time I listened to my own voice on a song. It blew my mind that it was me and it felt right.
