We had the good fortune of connecting with Amon Schenk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amon, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Treating and respecting people right has been the most important lesson I have learned in my service business. I have found that when I treat my staff in a way that they feel better about themselves their performance increases and in return treat me how I would like to be treated. The same goes for our clientele. When clients get upset, this is bound to happen, put yourself in their shoes and try to understand where they are coming from. Treat them as if it is your problem too and try to work with them to solve it. This will take practice because it is not easy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a residential and commercial cleaning service in the greater Tucson area. What makes us different is the little things in how we treat our clients. We are polite, personable, and professional in all interactions from cleaning to customer service calls. Another thing about us is we use upfront pricing so there are no surprises at any time.

Getting to where we are today in business took lots of perseverance and delegation. Many times, I have wanted to give up, but continuing to persist even when uncertainty looms greatly helped.

A few years ago, I used to try to do everything in the business. Answer all the calls, do all the cleaning, training, marketing, etc. I realized that I can’t do everything and if I try to do everything I will be mediocre at many business tasks instead of focusing on my strengths. So I decided to start delegating some of the more time-consuming tasks and started to see the impact and growth within the business.

Whoever reads this please know that anything is possible in business. It’s not about how smart you are, but how hard you are willing to work and to learn along the way. Six months before I started my business I was working as a busser at Olive Garden and a cashier at McDonald’s.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
– Sabino Canyon – Tumahoc Hill
– Catch a Roadrunner hockey game or UA basketball game
– Laffs Comedy Club
– Baja Cafe Breakfasts
– Top Golf
– Golf at Rancho Del Lago
– Round 1
– HiFi
– Pockets Pub

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am in a Facebook group of other cleaning business owners called L27 and BK. These two groups were such valuable resources; everyone is transparent and works together to help each other out.
