We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Perrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have always been someone that gravitates towards both internal and external challenges and risks. I think risk taking has allowed me to maintain an open mind to various possibilities and opportunities to be bold in my growth and knowledge. Without taking some of the major risks I have, I would not have made some of the most important relationships in my life, followed my passion to be a healthcare provider, or experienced a multitude of cultures, beliefs, and values around the United States.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others starts with the adversity I have personally experienced and how I have transformed the challenges into qualities that help me develop intentional connections with those I encounter whether it’s in the professional setting as a healthcare provider, as a yoga instructor, or chatting with the baristas at my favorite coffee shop. Along with my personal experiences, I think the disciplines I have studied compliment each other well and continue to advance, which inspires me to constantly seek out ways to make a greater impact in all areas of my life. Currently, I am most excited to present at the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, as well as start a new season of life working at Stanford University.

I got to where I am today both personally and professionally from constant growth, consistent faith, and continual perseverance. By no means was this journey easy, but I was able to overcome such tribulations simply by mindset. I diligently sought out the lessons learned, progress made, or impactful outcomes regardless of the situation at hand. What made it easier, though, is allowing myself to lean onto my support system for additional encouragement, wisdom, and love. Last but certainly never least, my faith has empowered my grit and understanding in all of the circumstances I have been presented with.

Some of the most impactful lessons I have learned along the way include leaning into what or who you believe in full-heartedly. Whether it’s spiritually, professionally, personally, or all of the above- always stay true to yourself. I am a firm believer that where you are is exactly where you are meant to be. Another valuable lesson I’ve adapted to over the years is simply being intentional and present with what is right in front of you. I used to be a big planner, until I finally had the epiphany that things usually don’t go that way anyways, so why try to control things you are meant to simply experience as they naturally unfold? I think these two lessons can go hand in hand and serve as daily reminders.

Similarly to lessons, I would say it’s my hope that especially through my story, the world is mindful that there’s always something more to someone or something, and if we go into a situation with an open and loving mind, there is ample room for positive change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were coming to Flagstaff, Arizona, I would first have to convince them to run with me on good ol’ Lake Mary Road and promise them a coffee at my favorite shop, Late For The Train afterwards. I would also want them to form their own opinion on their favorite place, though, so we will tour all of the local coffee stops. To shake out some of that caffeine craze, I’d explore some of the trails around Flagstaff. We would have to get food and smoothies at the Local Juicery, too. Once we’ve rested a little bit and done some yoga on the turf field, we’d probably venture to the Museum Club for line dancing lessons, go to the Lowell Observatory, or sit and watch the stars at Buffalo Park. If it’s Sunday, we are also definitely going to the farmer’s market!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to specifically shoutout my Grandparents, aunt, uncle, mom, and sister for constantly supporting my ambitious goals even when they seem so far out there, for encouraging me through adversity, and for providing unconditional love. I would not be where I am or who I am without them.
