Meet Lydia Missal | Psychotherapist and Owner.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Missal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business evolved out of years of professional training, personal psychological and spiritual inquiry, observing and guiding clients in a myriad of techniques and skills, and a lot of mentorship and guidance from teachers, supervisors, coaches and consultants.
Specifically, my business name emerged in a flash of insight one morning during my meditation practice. I realized that the common denominator of all of the clients I’ve served over the past 18 years, in the mental health realm, was the idea that all individuals desire to be more in the state of flow. From that moment, I knew my business would be called Flow State Psychotherapy, LLC.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I love my business because I get to be creative in my connections with others, set my own schedule, and develop trainings for all of my ideas and dreams. I’m most proud of taking the risk to start my own business almost four years ago. Having had a lot of experiences in a variety of different managed care settings, I struggled with confidence and it was very scary for me to take this step. I got to where I am today with a lot of school, additional trainings to keep my state license, studying, listening to people, and hard work. It hasn’t been easy but what has helped me the most to overcome challenging periods has been to get support from the right people at the right time. Being a licensed clinical professional counselor, one of my ethics talks about consultation. Something I value the most is integrity and knowing when to ask for support, helps me stay in alignment with my self and my purpose. I have learned many lessons along the way such as how to slow down, be patient, trust the process, let go of control and lean on others for guidance and support. I want the world to know that accessing the flow state is available to everyone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in one of the most beautiful places in the country near a world class ski resort called Sun Valley!
My answer to this question is seasonally dependent but since it’s still winter and I love snow and skiing, I’m going to answer it as if they visited me in winter. My best friend and I would ski every day. We would pack food so we wouldn’t have to spend all of our money at the expensive resort but there would be one day where we would plan to eat fondue lunch at the Roundhouse. The Roundhouse is a mid-mountain restaurant and it has a beautiful view of the surrounding area. This time of year all of the mountains are snow-covered and it is an absolute beautiful winter wonderland. During one of the days we aren’t skiing, we would take a day trip to this small mountain town called Stanley, Idaho. We would leave early enough to dine at the Stanley Bakery and then soak in some natural hot springs. If we need a little evening entertainment, we would attend a show at the Argyros in Ketchum following a dinner and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, but there are so many that it is hard to only recognize one! However, my dear colleague, teacher, coach, consultant and guide, Katie Asmus. She is the founder of Somatic Wilderness Therapy Institute in Boulder, CO. She has changed my life in so many ways.
